When i start my PC, it takes about 4 to 5 minutes to get the normal working conditions. I think this is due to the applications like McAffee Virus Scan, MSN Messanger and Yahoo! which automatically start with my PC. Please tell me the ways to prevent them

Goto Start-->All Programs-->Run
Type Msconfig here,
under selective start up uncheck load startup items.
reboot the system.
now the startup items wont be there.
and you system will take less time to boot.

for the messangers, edit the option and make it like dont start when my computer starts (thats go with AIM, but that option should be availible to MSN and Yahoo) im not sure for the Virus Scan.

You can check to see what programs are coming up at start-up by going to run and typing msconfig. Click the startup tab and review your programs. It isn't a good idea to stop your anti-virus from starting up when you turn the computer on. It actually leaves you less protected. Also you can check to see if you have spyware that can really slow a computer down. I recommend a good program like Spybot Search and Destroy from www.safer-networking.org. Free and simple to use. God bless and good luck.

I disagree with other answerer. Unless you are using dialup, I would want my PC protected at all times and would have my antivirus program load at startup.

As for MSN Messenger and Yahoo, check their Tools and Options where you can clear the option to load at startup.

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

If you wish to have this programs and still load your computer fast, enable hibernation and thence, hibernate your computer instead of shutting it down.
