yeah, I know, stupid question, but I want to make a banana muffin recipe, and I don't think my banana's are quite ripe yet. Any suggestions? (obviously, i'm too impatient to wait for them to ripen)

Q: How can I ripen bananas in two days? I'm making banana bread and the bananas are not quite ripe enough. Is there a fast way to ripen bananas? Mariska Rehs, Beavercreek, OH

AskFN: When you're making banana bread, you want your bananas to be as ripe as possible. The easiest way is to, as each bunch of bananas progresses further towards black, freeze them in a plastic bag, adding more with each bunch, until you have enough for bread. If you don’t have enough in the freezer, or you're starting from scratch, the fastest way is to put the bananas in a paper bag on the countertop with an apple. Why? Apples emit ethylene gases, which cause certain fruits (like pears and bananas) to ripen faster. Starting with green bananas, paper-bagging them should give you ripe bananas in a day and perfect bread-ready bananas in a day and a half.

To quickly ripen, put them in a paper bag and close. If you want them to ripen faster, place an apple in the bag. The apple will produce ethylene gas, which will speed the ripening process. To delay ripening, place the bananas in the vegetable crisper. The peel will turn brown from the cold, but the fruit will be fine.

Microwave a whole unpeeled banana in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Take it out and it will begin to ripen within a few minutes.

Put them in a paper bag.
that won't ripen them in the next few minutes, but it does accelerate the process.

If you put them in a paper bag and put that paper bag in a dark place like in a cabinet then it will speed up the process.
