We feed our puppy and dogs Innova, which was suggested to us by our vet. Our puppy is 5 months and now eats 2 times a day with the adult dogs. Ours is a Border Collie and the vet told us that the feeding instructions on the bag are a good general guideline for feeding portions, but that our BC needed more to accomodate her energy level.

Check your bag of the food you use and then see that your vet agrees with that portioning (based on your dog/puppy) or if you need to alter it based on activity level or lack there of.

It depends on the size of the dog, and a vet or any of the petco or other petsmart places can advise you based on the size and what kind of puppy.

Usually 2 x a day, anywhere from 1/4 cup for very small puppies, to 1 to 2 cups for rottweilers and St. Bernard puppies, and they go ...outside...right after they eat...so you need to watch the puppy to avoid accidents.

Only puppy chow, and it must be made for puppies and not adult dogs, as puppies need a different mixture of protein.

Don't forget to buy a crate, called a house, and keep the puppy in the house at night....the puppy will be happy to see you in the morning, and usually never soil their bed area.

Don't feed them table scraps as they can get "the runs" very easily as they can't quite digest it ...and then you'll have a mess and a puppy that has to go every 20 minutes.
You may think you're giving them something good, but you could cause them bad stomach pains and "the trots".

Best of luck and petco and petsmart also have dog obedience classes, and have lots of advice for puppies.

I feed my puppy Eukanuba and because food intake is determined by how much a puppy weighs (the bag should tell you how much per pound) I feed him a whole cup of dry dog food in a day. I divide this cup into three separate meals. When he is 4 months I will feed him 3/4 and divide that into two meals. He is a little dog (2.5 pounds) so he doesn't need as much food as a bigger puppy would, so check the bag. However, younger puppies need to eat more frequently because their metabolism is a lot faster. I hope this helps and good luck!

For the food, become a label reader. Think “high five” or “give me five”. Look at the first five ingredients. The top ingredient is a meat. The next ingredients are vegetables and grains (unless you want to go grain-free). A second meat is also good. None of those ingredients can be a by-product, corn, or wheat. For the biting, puppies learn bite inhibition from littermates and Mom. If pup was removed from the litter before 8-weeks old then they often have poor bite inhibition. When he clamps down on you too hard you need to yelp loudly (which marks the behavior and startles him) and then hold your hands against your body as you go still (the fun time stops immediately). Say and do nothing for a moment, then either continue the interaction or turn away and do something else. It will take a couple yelps for him to catch on that when he bites too hard the good times stop rolling. He also loses your attention, which will become almost the worst thing.

Depends on the age of your dog. Choose a good dog food that contains a lot of protien and very few binders.

My dogs eat Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed dog food. As my dogs are both over 1 year old, and under 15 lbs., I give them 3/4 cup of dry food once a day. I leave it down for 15 minutes then pick it up. You'd be surprised how quickly they learn to eat on demand when they know the food will only be down for a limited amount of time. Regulating their food also allows me to regulate their need to deficate.

For snacks, be sure you're reading the ingredients again. My girls are treated only with freeze dried liver treats and/or Innova Evo bisquits.

well when my dogs were puppies I fed them 3 times a day, by the time he was 14 wks he no longer wanted his noon meal and so he started just eating twice a day. I have 2 Shih-tzus and a older small labX, the bigger Shih-tzu (18 lbs) and the older labX (35 lbs) both eat 1 cup of food a day and the smaller Shih-tzu (12.5 lbs) eats 3/4 cup. I feed my dogs Timberwolf Organics and they love it.

I feed my puppy Science Diet and on the bag, depending on the size of your dog, it will tell you how much to feed it.
