Since you mentioned God, I'll assume you're referring to the God of the Bible. If this is the case, then I'll have to say free will is the answer. Here's why:
In the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were given instructions on how to conduct their lives. One such instruction is no to eat from the tree of knowledge, for they would surely die if they do this. Well, with the help of the serpent, they became tempted and went against God's instruction. They paid dearly for this by getting kicked out of Eden and losing out on eternal life.
They knew the consequences of their actions, yet they "chose" to go against Gods instruction. I don't think they were "destined" to do this. They decided to do it.

From the beginning it was Gods Holy will that each man be given sufficient graces to enable him to attain eternal salvation. But man also was given free will, the power to accept or reject those graces. Thus through Gods foreknowledge, He knows beforehand which men through there own actions will accept the graces and will finally achieve eternal happiness, and which will refuse them and be condemned. God foresees our salvation or damnation, not as an end He decreed, but as the result of our own behaviour, but nevertheless in his decree, by which He predestinates the number of the elect from all eternity. As you by your memory do not cause past acts to be done so God by his foreknowledge does not cause future acts to be done

A Destiny is something one makes for onesself.
Free will is either doing that. Or not having to do that.
And ending up a victim of Fate.

Christianity teaches Free Will. Otherwise, what would the point be of a God who plans it out in advance?

God gives everyone free will. Even the angels have it. But, there are consequences as well as in the case of Adam and Eve. God told Adam that if they ate from the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and bad they would surely die. And die they did, in God's eyes they died as soon as they ate but he allowed them to remain physically alive for almost the entire 1,000 year day so that all of us could be born. But, because Adam and Eve were sinful, they genetically passed that on to us, so that, without Jesus' sacrifice, we would all have to die and remain dead as they will.

It depends on your perspective. Calvinists and those like them believe that there is a preordained elect who will acheive heaven based on God's will from the dawn of time. Most others believe that salvation is chosen or earned.
Outside of Christianity, I do not know.

i don't think we are predestined. i believe God gives us the free will to do as we please. if we were predestined , what would be the point of trying to win souls for the Lord ? i could go on and on in person, but can't seem to find the words to say what i would like to and put it into words. anyway, thanks for the question. God bless.

God gave us all the free will to choose between Him and ourselves. He hopes we'll choose Him, but He won't force us.

even though God already knows what we will choose does not change the fact that He allows us to make our own decision about weather or not we will serve him,,, predestination is only this,,,,, Gods foreknowledge of what is going to happen, does not change our choices,,,,good luck
