It started out with swelling of the knee. Then bruising, then bruising spread from knee to foot. None of his doctor's can explain what is causing this. Any help would be great.

It could be a form of a lymphatic system disorder. Lymphodema is characterized by swelling--sometimes bruising is associated with it, but not often. Is it very sore? When you push the knee does the skin stay "pitted"? That would be a sign of a lymphatic disorder--your lymph system helps distribute fluid evenly throughout the body.

Treatment should be with a PT who is certified with lymphodema treatment.

If it continues to be painful with bruising, I would ask for an MRI to make sure there is not a ligamental or tendon tear...

I hope that helps! I am a therapist!
