Has this happened to anyone out there? Pretty much the whole side of my face is aching now and it hurts really bad to open my mouth or move my jaw. What should I do? Will it go away on it's own? Thanks in advance...

Sounds like TMJ..........As a modified hinge joint, not only does the TMJ enable the jaw to open and close, it also enables the jaw to move forward and backward, as well as laterally.

See a Chiropractor.

Your jaw is "off the hinges," so to speak. There is a little cushion that is supposed to sort of float between the top of your jaw bone and the base of your skull. It's held in place by ligaments and a capsule around the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It is supposed to glide along and remain on top of your jaw bone when you open your mouth, but it sounds like yours has slipped out of position. This is more common than you might think and a lot of times, the first time it happens is after you sleep funny on your jaw. If you are very careful about not opening very wide and not eating very hard or chewy foods for a couple of weeks, it might correct itself. (It's not too different from twisting your ankle in that regard.) You can also use ibuprofen according to the label directions to help with the pain.

You could wait a day or two using ibuprofen before you need to decide if it's getting better or if you need to be evaluated by your dentist. Think carefully about this as it is better to err on the side of being cautious. If you need treatment now and do not get it, your TMJ is likely to act up from now until forever and it will only get worse for the rest of your life. (Pleasant thought, right?)

Capsule summary:
1. Take it easy for a couple of days
2. Limit opening and avoid hard chewing
3. Use ibuprofen, if you need it
4. If you don't think things are 100% right by Monday, call your dentist

You most likely popped one of the ligaments in your jaw. That can happen if you chew too hard or have a habit of grinding your teeth. The pain will eventually go away on its own, but I suggest you see your dentist.

You might have poped you muscle or ligament or even you bone out of place. Go see a dentest or doctor. I have poped my jaw before but it only hurt for a second, hour most.

TMJ, go to a doctor, and in the meantime, take an anti-inflammitary. It will help. (like IBuprofen or something)
(tangible-mandibular joint disorder)

just stretch your jaw, and try not to bite so hard, relax it and if it hurts too much go and see a doctor.

this happened to me but it only happened when i woke up.. it was because i was clenching my jaw, trying to keep it tight but i went to the dentist he said to stop clenching and to place my tongue in between my teeth and it stopped and only happens sometimes .. i think you should see the dentist though
