A drug receptor is like what it effects alpha beta1 or beta2 muscrinic or nicatinic. having a hard time figuring it out

Not all drugs affect receptors. Lipitor, for example, slows the body's ability to make cholesterol by inhibiting an enzyme used in the process.

Atenolol (a beta blocker) does bind to a receptor; it blocks Beta1 adrenergic receptors. When you see the word "adrenergic," think "adrenaline" (aka epinephrine). Adrenaline causes vasoconstriction (ie. your blood vessels shrink). Atenolol lowers blood pressure by preventing vasoconstriction.

To find out (what we know about) how a drug works, I usually have success by typing [drugname] "method of action" into Google. You should be able to find out how the rest work that way.
