Just curious if anyone has done the atkins diet and if you have seen results. I work out everyday, but I am having a hard time with losing weight. I watch my calories but I do eat a lot of sugar and carbs. Any advise?

Yes. It can be hard though. It's a lifetime thing. I tried in the short term to provide another support and stuffed myself with low-carb food but lost a ton of weight. Lots of cheese and meat, and a lot of the stuff that Dr. Atkins probably wouldn't recommend like bacon.

Yes, I have been successful with the Atkins diet. I am in my 40s and was thin all my life until a couple of years ago. I became about 20 lbs overweight and decided to try the Atkins diet. I lost the weight and have kept it off. Before the diet I craved starches and sugar, and I was always hungry. I no longer have any food cravings. I haven't had a potato in forever and I rarely eat pasta or rice - and I don't miss them at all. I drink sugar free beverages and limit sweets. I find that I don't eat as much and I can go longer between meals. I have come to appreciate fresh, non-processed foods that are healthier for me. The Atkins diet is not a diet you go on and off. It is a lifestyle change. I will never eat the way I did before.

I have heard a lot of people say they have tried the Atkins diet but it made them sick or they could not stay on it. You will go through a rough spot about a week into the diet where your body is adjusting to the loss of carbs. You might feel sick or very tired. This is normal. If you can get over this hump you will be successful.

I have never done Atkins. I have been able to stay at a healthy weight for years using Weight Watchers. The problems with Atkins are that people almost always gain back all the lost weight and more, a diet too high in protein is hard on the kidneys, the amounts of animal fat permitted can hasten atherosclerosis, and protein can interfere with calcium absorption. A balanced diet that is low in fat and high in fiber and in which you burn more calories than you ingest is the best way to lose weight and keep it off without damaging your body.

If you do like carbs, try the southbeach diet. They allow you to have good carbs. It will help you loose weight better than Atkin's, in my opinion.

What if you just tried cutting out the sugar and carbs?
