Only if it is a white wine, or champagne and has a nitrous oxide sealent, similar to the gas used for propelling whipped cream out of its can. This type of stopper can increase the life of an open bottle of wine to up to 3 months. A normal stainless steel and rubber stopper should give you another week to come up with a decent excuse to finish the bottle.
The idea is to stop the oxygen in the bottle interacting with the wine, hence the replacement gas.
It is not wise to refrigerate a bottle of red wine, unless youre close to an equatorial climate zone, then the wine should be kept anywhere where it can maintain plus minus 15 degrees centegrade and be out of direct sunlight or artificial light.
I my personal opinion, no bottle of wine should be opened unless there is every intention of finishing it. Many lasting friendships are contained in an empty bottle of wine.

Once you open a bottle of wine you have maybe a week before it's no good. Typically refrigeration only gives you an extra day, as does the pump. You usually wouldn't refrigerate reds but it's fine if you want to extend its life a day or two. Reds or whites, make sure they are tightly corked and if red and being left out make sure it's not in too warm of a place--that will make it go bad quicker.
If you dont think you'll drink a bottle in a week, some wines come in half bottles (they do tend to be a bit more expensive though), they can be somewhat hard to find depending on what store you go to. Also, some of the lower-end wines offer tiny bottles in four packs (sometimes given at weddings as favors).

The master wine sommelier Peter Marks at Copia, museum for wine and food, recommends putting all wine - red, white or sparkling in the fridge if you are not going to consume in one sitting. Try to get out as much air as possible by either transferring to a smaller bottle like a 375ml or using the wine saver air pump thing as somebody else mentioned. Refrigeration will not hurt the red wine, but you should probably drink it in the next day or so. Any unopened wine probably good for a few days. You should bring the wine back to room temp when you decide to drink it again.

I know red wine typically lasts a bit longer than white wine, but never had any problems with a bottle of blush/ white zenfendel. I always refrigerate wine after opening it, and usually keep it for only a few weeks - because the wine always flows at my house!

White wine - yes, recork it and then refrigerate it. You won't get a lot of shelf life out of it though - probably no more than 3 days. Red wine - recork it but don't refrigerate it. If it is only you drinking the wine, than you probably wouldn't be able to get through a whole bottle of wine in a night anyway.

No. Cork it. Get the air out of it if possible. With a little pump thingy. And store it in a pantry or on top of the fridge or something. Unless you just like cold wine.

that's an exceptionally perplexing one and it relies upon lots on who the visitors are, who the hosts are and how properly they comprehend one yet another. A considerate centred visitor ought to declare, whilst they provide the wine, something that makes it clean that they don't anticipate the wine to be served that nighttime. in the event that they don't the host would desire to thank them for the present and ask their suggestion on how long it would be saved previously that's at its appropriate. That places the onus back on the centred visitor. in the event that they openly say they have been watching for it to be opened there after which you will besides accomplish that, after telling them you have already got some wine opened. in the event that they drink the wine they further -- properly a minimum of there is greater of the wine you chosen so you might delight in. carry out greater glasses so which you will examine them. in my opinion I regularly take wine as a present day and that i don't anticipate it to be opened. there and then.

yes it is perfectly fine. Wine is meant for enjoyment. Thats not to say that you should throw a taste testing party and have a bunch of half empty bottles. Well, unless your friends are like mine....they will drink anything.
