Let the poor dog sit whichever way he feels comfortable doing so. It won't harm anything, if his legs aren't closed. If you are real concerned, you can always get a vet to look him over for possible hip problems.

Well a dog jumps up because they want to greet your face, not your legs. When two dogs meet they typically touch noses first. I found with my year old Catahoula Leopard Dog that if I squat at her level when I first come in she doesn't find the need to jump. I continued this with her when she was a puppy and after a few month I just bent over to pet her and squatted less. Eventually she got the idea that she didn't need to jump to catch my attention.

Every lab I have ever seen sits that way. I think they are just so relaxed that they don't care. Its funny to see some dogs sit in a position ready for action, and then see the cute labs just plop right down. Have fun with him... they are great companions and will do anything for you! :)

Why try to teach a dog to sit like a human? He just wants to be comfortable. I don't think he expect you to go outside and go to the bathroom, though he proably would respect you for it. Just wait until you have a party and he sits right in the middle of everyone and starts to lick his balls. As far as he's concerned, hell, I'm just being clean :-)

that is just how she normally sits " its whats comfortable to her" i don't believe you should be concerned...my lab sits like that all the time and ive seen other dogs sit this way ..but if you're really concerned take your dog to the vet and ask them to exam your dog's hips to see if their is anything wrong ...( labs are known for their hip problems)

Good grief..now your dog is embarrassing you? You need to get a grip, relax..surely there are more important things to worry about than that your dog does not sit in a gentlemanly manner! Be thankful that the dog can sit. Mine just died...I would love to see him sit anyway he wanted..just to see him.

I am laughing because I have a dog who used to sit so funny too- we used to laugh at him ( nothing is wrong with him- he just sat funny) Now he sits normal though.
Seriously, if it is bothering you or seems to be hurting the pup, get a hip check done to ease your mind.

thats just how he sits. i wouldnt worry about it. labs are never lazy, they are the exact opposite. just make sure you are exercising him everyday, too many people get labs and get bored with them, stick them in the backyard and the dogs goes crazy from boredom. labs need to walk, jog, play fetch, flyball EVERYDAY. anythign that releases energy, they are bred to go to work everyday for hours straight and if they just stare at the fence all day they have behavoiral issues.

My pit bull sits with his legs out straight - It's so cute!! He's most silly looking when they are a little to the side. :)
