The kicker is if you knew she had HOT CABLE while you were living with her.

Then yes, you would have been in posession of stolen goods...think of it this way...if she stole a television and you knew she did and you both were using it, you both are considered to have stolen it, it doesn't matter if she did the action...this is called "constructive theft" or something like that, I can't remember the appropriate term, but it's the same meaning. How could you become involved, if she says you lived with her and shared in the use of it...she'll especially want to have another person to blame so that when you guys are fined or charged with paying the bill, she won't have to do it all by herself, you'd pay half.

So did you know it was stolen while you lived with her? You could always deny it...but if she is charged with a time frame from July 05 - August 06 and you lived with her during that time...the onus (liability) is on you to prove you didn't know. And how would you go about proving that?

That gets tricky.

Hope that info helps.

Otherwise, if it happened after you left...you don't need to worry, it's no longer your concern and neither is she.

Did you have hot cable while you lived there? Did you have a TV at all?

The laws tend to be skewed in favor of the cable companies, but if you can show you've moved out, I doubt they could or would spend too much time going after you, especially if you didn't have hot cable at the time.

Comcast would be your option, if they aren't interested as the victim of the theft you don't have a ton of options...I would just drop it at this point, cause you don't want your neighbors finding out, could get ugly.. You did your good deed, but if comcast isn't interested in it, there isn't much you can really do..

As long as you can prove you are no longer at that address I dont see how you could be held liable. I would call the company and have your name removed or explain that you are no longer at the residence beacause they might want you to return the equipment.

I would call cable company and try to get my name off of that contract. If they won't do that, send them a letter stating you don't
live their anymore.
