Okay, well I'm trying to grow my hair out for Locks of Love. I've read on the website that the hair isn't supposed to be bleached, but why is that? I have really grown out highlights from a year ago. If I dye my hair, would they have any way of knowing it was bleached? I'm just not sure why it can't be highlighted. I'm also getting really frustrated with my hair and would love to just get it highlighted, but if there isn't any way around hiding, I guess I won't be able to.

They really want the hair to be natural because it's easier to make the wigs out of non colored hair. I just donated 12 inches to the Locks for Love program in honor of one aunt who died of cancer and my grandfather and a 16 year old cousin, all from cancer.

Yeah I had that problem myself.

The thing Ive been told is the highlights make the hair really brittle.

What I'm doing currently is just letting the highlights grow off.

I don't think dying it would help. But I'm not an expert.

They request natural hair because even though it's been a year, the bleach has changed the hair shafts structure which makes it more difficult to weave into a wig and also makes it harder to match with other hair shades for the same said wig.

From what I understand, the hair gets damaged and it is hard to put in wigs and have it last. I don't know if they would necessarily know or not. It depends on the health of the hair I guess.

Bleached hair is not as strong as unbleached hair. They would want unbleached hair for that reason. Once the hair is in a wig, they wouldn't want anything that would deteriorate or break off.
