I am taking a Religion class and the professor suggested that the bible gives two different accounts of God creating man. In 1-2:4a he says it says they were created at same time. Then in 2:4b- .... the story is told with the version we are more familiar with. Anyone have a clue about this?
Only serious answers please...

No contradiction. Genesis 1 gives you a seven day overview of Creation, including the creation of Adam and Eve. Genesis 2 gives you a detailed account of that creation that led up to the creation of the first man and woman.

In a class at Purdue University, I had a professor point this out, too. I won't give it away, however, compare each story and note the order in which things are created.

Also, if you can get your hands on it, learn the Jewish creation story predating Adam and Eve. You'll know it from the popular version as Adam's wife is first Lilith, then Eve. Eve and Lilith were not created the same way.

the bible dose mention the creating of man twice, but If you read over the text the first time is in the context of the creation of the world describing in hindsight what happened.

then the story picks off in the present tense with the author describing how G-d created man.

I personally do not see a contradiction but maybe some people do.

Moses wrote Genisis, and as we know is the only man to ever speak with God face to face, well, other than Jesus, but at the first as he was telling the account of creation it is in kinda like a nut shell, but then backs up and gives a more detailed account, alot of things r like that in the bible,it sure is designed to dig for these truths

No contradiction. Read it again. Ch 1 gives the order, ch 2 just has more detail.

sure, it isn't a new question, but the answer requires answering from within a faith-based framework which allows for exegesis on the passages from a certain tradition. a literal read of the text is doomed to failure. youhave to agree on exegetical rules and authorities before you can posit an acceptable answer.

This is just one of many, many contradictions in the Bible that Christians rationalize away. I know, I did myself for many years. That is why Christianity is called a "faith" - one must believe what they are taught regardless of logical contradiction or observation.

There are two different accounts, your prof is right. Most Christians will say the second is just a more detailed account of the first.
