Yes evolution is a theory.

Theory: A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

Can't say the same for creationism.

Also, I guess we are just creating stronger and stronger medicines to fight bacteria just for the hell of it huh? Or maybe God is just trying to kill us.

Let's define what a theory is. When a biologist uses that word, it has a very different meaning then when we use it in our common parlance. A theory explains the facts better than any other theory. It is also testable, falsifiable, and leads to other discoveries.

Evolution is both a fact and a theory.

The fact of evolution is that things change over time. More specifically, alleles (genes) change over time.

The theory of evolution is that all life on this planet shares a common ancestor.

Here are some facts: There is a fossil record of animals that are no longer alive. There are retroviruses inserted into our DNA that we can find in the DNA of other animals, most notably primates. Mutations occur in the genes. There is an order of complexity to the fossil record. These are but a handful of facts.

The theory of evolution is what best fits those facts. We know evolution occurs, so it makes the most amount of sense that it has always occurred. And we don't have to bring in some other supernatural agent, i.e. god. That's Occam's Razor.

Why not learn something about evolution before you just regurgitate what you've heard in church? If you spend time learning about it, and it's wrong, then you'll know why and you'll have discovered the answer for yourself.

I have been studying Science for the last 10 years
and as for the Theory of Evolution, it is Just that a Theory.
it is basiically like trying to guess what a picture is by only looking at less than one percent of the whole picture.
There are millions of species alive today, and many more species have gone extinct over the history of this planet. also out of the billions of single life forms that have lived on this planet very few Fossils have actually been discovered.(this is the <1%)
these fossils that have been discovered have been used to map out a Theory of Evolution composed of Plateus (rungs of a ladder or steps on a staircase, but with nothing connecting the steps or rungs together) of species. but there are no fossils that have been found that are between these Plateus. for the Theory to ever become a Fact what is reqired is to find fossils that clearly show the change of one species into another (rope, rope-ladder(rungs), or chain of fossil evidence, when graphed will show a slope with horizontal flat sections) or for some currently living animal to give birth to something that is unable to reproduce with the Mother species but is able to reproduce with one that is identical to it.

An Evolutionary-Mutation would be fertile, but would have a completely different Genome from the Parent Species, unlike a normal mutation which damages the genetic code leaving the child infertile or with severe birth defects that ussually end in death, example is a mule which is the cross between a donkey and a horse. though it is similar to the parent species it is unable to reproduce with either species or with other crosses. it is there fore infertile and there for it is a mutation and is not considered a new species.

Many people have tried to claim that the Finches of Galapagos Island and other areas of the world are able to evolve. this is not the case all it is is a case of special specialization. it is simply a case of rececive genes taking dominance through variences in food availability. (the differences noticed in the Finches have been beak sizes and shapes).

As food availability changes the finches that have the genes which will enable them to make the best use of the available foods will gain dominance over those finches whose beak genes are specialized toward the food that is out of season or no longer available. there fore the average shape of the beaks will change over time in acordance to what food is readily available.

The finches have not changed species thay have just become specialized within their species. this can also cause some Genes to become extinct within a Species or Race. this is why "Race" could even be concidered to exist. Can make the Species Stronger or weaker based on what genes are lost over time.

On the other hand if the finches were no longer able to reproduce with the parent species but were only able to reproduce with other finches with the same beak size and shape then that Would mean that they had undergone Evolutionary-Mutation.
But this could only be tested in a Labratory under Precice Conditions.

Well, it all starts with a proper spelling of scientific. There are so many evidences for human evolution that I couldn't possibly list them all. But I'll list a few.

1. The plantaris muscle. The plantaris muscle is a small, thin muscle in the human calves that serves absolutely no purpose in humans. It is so useless that about 9% of humans don't even have the muscle. It was originally used by our ancestors for purposes such as gripping things with our feet, which is seen in monkeys today.

2. Human DNA and Chimpanzee DNA. DNA testing has revealed that human beings and chimpanzees share 97%, or so, common DNA. This is strong evidence that we share a common ancestor.

3. Flu viruses. The reason the flu virus is so prevalent and strong is that it develops (evolves) an immunity to vaccines we've created.

4. Evolution has been demonstrated in the laboratory, regardless of what some creationists tell you, in certain plants, and some species, such as fruit flies. Because of the length that evolution takes, it can only be demonstrated in animals and plants with short lifespans. However, this is evidence that evolution has happened to nearly all creatures.

5. Fossil location on the geologic column. Starting at the bottom of the geologic column (the oldest area), fossilized animals are much smaller and much less complex. However, as you begin to go up (nearer and nearer to our own time), the fossils are more complex, which is certainly great evidence that all living creatures evolved from simple organisms.

Again, these are just a few proofs of evolution.

How about that we have observed species changing over time. Genetic code has been observed and studied to change with time. This is evolution. This is fact. The theory part is exactly how and what. We know that our genetics are changing, and from this, has changed in the past. So then scientists look at other species, fossil records, and other evidence to try and figure out how the species evolved into what they are and what the relations are. The theory is that we share a common ancestor to apes. And it is so far a pretty good theory.

It's just like the theory of gravity. We know there is gravity, but we don't know what causes it.

- The fact that all organisms have a parent or parents and the fact that offspring inherit traits from the parent(s).

- The fact that not all individuals pass on their traits equally, ie. not all individuals survive to reproduce, or just reproduce, equally well.

- The fact that changes in the heritable traits of a population over successive generations, as determined by shifts in the allele frequencies of genes, is abundantly observed.

- The fact that DNA mutations occur. And the fact that the very rare positive mutations are observed to be selected for (and negative ones selected against) by Natural Selection. And that positive mutations are observed to spread thru populations quickly.

- The fact that mutations are observed to add information to the genome (as well as delete) via duplication of stretches and polyploidy etc.

- The fact that speciation has been observed in the lab. eg. fruit flies and plants, and in the outside environment, eg. in mosquitos and fish. And the fact that closely related species can't interbreed successfully (no, or sterile, offspring) hence stay separate.

- Observations of gradual transitions between some of the most abundant fossil species, eg. among planktic foraminifera: Globigerinoides trilobus to Globigerinoides bisphericus to Praeorbulina sicana to Orbulina universa. And countless other examples.

- The fossil record of 200,000 to 300,000 species which shows systematic change from one species/genus/family to the next up the geological column.

- Consistent pylogenetic trees from fossils, DNA and molecular clocks.

- Present and past biogeography consistent with new species originating close to the old one (except in cases of extreme mobility)

- Homology - structures and proteins which are common between widely separated species, but which have a different function.

- Embryology and developmental biology, eg. gills & tails in mammal embryos and leg buds in dolphin embryos.

- Molecular and anatomical vestiges

The Galapagos Islands are home to a variety of creatures that have adapted in the relative isolation of the archipelago. Regardless of the fact that your "drunken Englishman" first collected 13 varieties of finch that had evolved to fill a variety of niches for flighted birds. A single pair of finches found their way to the isolated islands and their offspring diverged.

The bony structure of all tetrapods (four-limbed creatures including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians) can be traced back to lobe-finned fish of the Devonian period.

Numerous intermediate forms leading to the modern horse, have been unearthed. Modern horses differ from donkeys by one chromosome. Their hybrid offspring, mules, are infertile.

There are many scientific theories that you use every day. Aerodynamics is a theory, but you can fly on a plane. Thermodynamics are a set of theories, but you can use air conditioning, refrigeration and your car. We use evolutionary theory to predict the next flu shot or next pandemic. We use evolutionary theory in agriculture to breed better animals and plants. We use evolutionary theory to guide genetic engineering. If you've gone to the grocery store lately, there is a 100% chance you bought something that used evolutionary theory to make things better.

A theory is not the same as a guess....Check it out, you might be surprised at some of the other things we take for granted as true that are still considered "Theories."
And even on the small scale, you can look at a knight's armor from the 15th and 16th Century, and it is the size of a modern day 12-year-old boy.

So, you are saying that the proof involving Darwin's finches is not valid simply because of the fact that you do not want to believe it?
