Evangelicalism, Christian movement emphasising personal conversion and the authority of the Bible.
Origin, and the usage of the term "Evangelical in Europe:"
"Evangelical" was derived from the Greek word "euangellismos" which means: gospel or good news.
During the Reformation, Martin Luther referred to his movement as the evangelische kirche (evangelical church). Later, "Evangelical" became a near-synonym for "Protestant" in Europe. It retains this meaning in Germany today.
A British historian, David Bebbington, defines an "Evangelical Christian" as a person exhibiting four beliefs and behaviors:
Conversionism: the belief that lives of all humans need to be changed by way of a "born again" decision to repent of their sins and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Activism: the expression of the gospel in various ways, including missionary outreach and social reform.
Biblicism: a particular regard for the Bible as the Word of God and the ultimate authority for religious belief and morality.
Crucicentrism: a stress on the substitutionary atonement by Christ on the cross. 13,14

I'm not 100 % sure what the exact details and beliefs are, but i do know that several of the people who answered this question are severely mistaken. for that, let me explain something. i'm not sure what you believe, so, i will simply state that most people understand the basic beliefs of Christianity, and you seem to know a bit because you asked about what baptists believe. If that is the case, i am sure you are smart enough to figure out which of these answers are just silly and pigheaded. evangelism is simply carrying out the commandment given in the great commission to "go into all the nations preaching the gospel." that doesn't mean forcing the gospel, simply sharing it. Christianity is not just a bunch of hypocritical, stupid, mean people trying to judge and condemn everyone. If that's all that most of these people believe, they obviously have not been around too many real Christians. Jesus taught us to Love and Accept everyone, and if he forgave them, then who are we to say that isn't enough?
i am not sure what evangelical Christianity as a denomination entails, but i am sure that regardless of denomination, Christ said that the world will know us by the love we have for others. that's really the important part of evangelizing.

Good query. I appear to have learn the variations however the article grew to become to lengthy for me to pay concentration. So what I did was once to examine my possess private convictions from my beyond navy carrier and got here up with the belief that a christian is a christian. What makes the change is the men and women lifestyles reviews. I have an vast lifestyles revel in when you consider that I have obvious practically the whole lot conceivable and a few too grotesque to write down. I can learn a man or woman a mile away simply by staring at their manners. All this was once taught to me however even that has its flaws when you consider that the one person who realize the truly reality is God. Good good fortune for your quest.

first of all if you are seriously wanting an answer look up evangelical in the dictionary (www.dictionary.com)
secondly, the good answer requires a knowledge of church history and i'm not going to do your term paper for you, i have been out of school too long to be doing this crap.
Short answer:
a branch of lutheranism (started by martin luther)
and prodistants are evangelical too.
basically they take the bible literally (but it never stops there)
for example they will tell you: "i give 10% of my income to the church because the bible says so"
then you say: "oh ya, where exactally in the bible does it say that?"
then they either:
1 get pissed that you had the balls to ask that question and say it just does
2 or they say i don't know, but it says it
(keep reading it gets better)
also! evangelicals think that they need to share the words of jesus with everyone, their job is to evangelize (now look that one up--remember? dictionary.com) the entire world
look it up on wikipedia and you will find it under christian FANATACISM (ya that's right, just like MUSLIM FANATACISM)
you see, they were exiled from europe (they call it prosection like the maryters they were) to.... GUESS WHERE....
that's right the colonies, which in tern became the good old US of A
so you see, our culture is based on fanatacism that is true because it is in the bible, while the muslim culture is wrong and evil because it is not
sorry for the length and any spelling errors, the spell check on yahoo is being too slow now

They are the "Christians" who believe strongly in the Bible--even though the Bible is badly mistranslated, with volumes missing (thanks to Catholic propaganda in the medieval era). They deny their human nature which is why it is not uncommon to hear of them commiting carnal acts; if you suppress your nature, your nature will come back to bite you.
