I have seen my credit report but I have yet to know what my credit score is? How I can I get my credit score and are there ways to monitor it periodically?

When checking your credit score online you should be very very very careful who you are giving your information out to. If your personal information falls into the wrong hands you could have identity theft problems. Make sure you use an accredited website when doing this. Under a new Federal law, you have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annual report under that law go to www.annualcreditreport.com
If you want to monitor your credit periodically you can try www.freecreditreport.com but there is a monthly fee for that.

I use www.creditexpert.com from Experian. For about $80 a year you can view your credit report and score as much as your heart desires. I usually check mine at least once a week. It will automatically notify you via E-mail if something in the report changes such as you opening a new credit card or applying for a loan. It also allows you to dispute erroneous information online. It's very useful and I highly recommend it.

You can call each of the three credit bureaus and tell them that you were denied credit and would like a copy of your report. You are allowed one free report a year. So you can call each year to get a free report. Never mind about paying for them online.

It's your right to monitor your report that is why the bureaus do this for you free once a year.
