Invasive plants are those which are capable of overwhelming an existing ecosystem over a short period of time. Many, although not all, are perennial species which are able to spread through seed production and vegetative reproduction, i.e. rhizomes or stolons. Those that are annual species produce an immense amount of seed per plant and are able to spread these seed over a large area. Invasive plant species are difficult if not near impossible to control. One such example in the southern states is kudzu. This plant was originally introduced from Asia for erosion control. Since its introduction into the United States, it has spread throughout the Southeast region to a point that it is impossible to bring under control.
Invasive plants may be categorized as noxious weeds. As such, each state has regulatory policies to control the introduction of these species into the respective state. If you do a search for the Department of Agriculture for your state, you may be able to find a listing of noxious weeds for your area. You can also contact your county extension agent, they may also be able to provide additional information regarding specific plant species that are considered invasive or noxious in your area.
I have included a list of internet resources that may be of some help.

Invasive plants are just plants that are acustomed to a certain envoronment and are transported by the hand of man to places in which they are new. Normaly the don't survive under the new conditions, but can happen that in this new place, the plant finds suitable climate and soil, but none of it's parasites, deseases, predators and competitors. In this cases, the plant strats covering the ground because it is in advantage in respect to the other native plants. The problem with them is that by excluding the native plants they desequilibrate the whole ecosistem, because hevibores don't necesarily can use the new plants as food.
There is in fact a lot of information abaut biological invations on the web, as it is a very big problem worldwide. Try searching "biological inavsions" in google scholar. I did a great paper on the subject ;-), but it is in spanish...sorry

Check out a master gardener link or an agricultural department at a local or state college.
This link may help, too.

Envasive plants are those that can populate an area quickly, either by seed or vegatatively. After a fire or flood this can be good, to a farmer it is bad.
