I once used the term "Christian" referring to a guy I thought he was a follower of Jesus Christ and someone told me I should use the term "Cross Worhippers" instead to identify such people

Crucifixion was a method of execution back in the day when Jesus Christ was suppose to have been executed. It was a cruel method and slow way to die. I do not understand why some Christians have chosen the cross as a symbol to use for Christ. Had Christ been hung with a rope, would Christians wear a rope around their necks instead of a cross? I do not believe they actually look at the cross as a method of torture as it is basically a cultural aspect of their religion.
If one was to truly see what that cross truly is, perhaps it would not be a good symbol to use. I doubt a parent of a anyone that was executed by an electric chair, would wear a chair hanging on a chain in remembrance of their loved one. I for one was raised a Christian, and believed the cross was representative of Christ. . .but have seen the error of my ways and believe the cross or any symbol is not required for ones heart to believe in a Deity.

But this is just my opinion, and faith is based on what one chooses to believe. The cross to me is a bad thing. Perhaps not the worse as they also impaled humans with a stake through the rectum, and come out by the right shoulder to purposely miss the heart, so that the person would live longer in pain.

What a world. . .

No
and how nice of you to ask to have it cleared up rather than continue to wallow in your friend's ignorance.

Christians worship the Christ - the son of the most High God. The Alpha and the Omega - beginning and the end. Emmanuel, Prince of Peace.

The cross is a symbol. The empty cross represents the risen Christ - although I believe the empty tomb would be a more fitting symbol... I certainly don't worship it. That would be contrary to the commandment "you better not worship any other gods other than me".
The symbol of the cross became popular centuries ago - usually depicted with Christ hanging on it. After the reformation, I believe that depicting the cross without Christ on it was an act of rebellion of sorts by those who followed Martin Luther - who preached (rightly so) that the risen Christ was our salvation - that salvation was free for the asking and that works would not get you into heaven. He also preached that Christ was not on the cross, but risen, alive and well, and interceding on our behalf when we repented and asked Him to.

no - christians don't worship the cross - they respect its symbolism. the vast majority don't worship Jesus either (they worship the aspect of God that they believe is in Jesus - ie respect Jesus the Man - worship Jesus the God) and worship only God (in his form as the "father" or the "son")

and as an add on after the comment above regarding cross vs sword! .......muslims don't worship Muhammed either - you cannot be a muslim and worship anything/anyone but God. Muslims respect him and all the other prophets including Adam, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael and Jesus as being the best examples of what mankind can be if we really try. Muslims believe they were people that God saw as the best of us all - He sent some of them as teachers, some with messages (like the Torah, The Bible and Quran) and allowed some to work miracles for people.

and both Islam and Christianity respects and reveres Mary as the virgin mother of Jesus Christ (the Quran has a whole chapter dedicated to her!)

perhaps you should ask this guy what he calls himself :) most of us would not choose the categories other people select for us :)

if you do a search on the net for the term you find it mixed with iraqi extreemists fighting against the "sross worshippers". i believe it to mean all Christians. apparently the person with whom you were speaking was using a derogatory term.

Christians worship JEsus Christ who died on the Cross and rose again.

BTW - that includes CAtholics who don't worship any but God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.... while the respect and can sincerely love the Saints, Blessed Mary and others - worship is reserved for GOd alone. i know there were posters who said otherwise but apparently they 1) know nothing about and 2) are not Catholic.

Christians do not worship a bypass. Christians worship the Christ who become crucified on { The bypass } and who rose from the lifeless on the third day to be the sacrifice for us sinners. Jesus paid our dept and now we can get carry of eternal existence by His blood. Romans 6:23 " The wages of sin is dying however the present of God is eternal existence in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We do not worship the cross. It is a rememberance. Personally I wear the large red wooden cross of The Jesus Army. I wear it so that people will judge my actions by it. I wear it as a reminder to myself not to dishonour Christ in what I say or do. I wear it to remind myself of the terrible price that Jesus paid so I could have a life worth living, and Eternal Life to come.

With one exception, all Christian faiths use the cross as symbolic reverence toward the Savior, Jesus Christ. The existing exception revere the cross for the pain and the suffering Christ endured, but do not display it in their meeting houses or churches.

They concentrate on the miracle of Christ's resurrection instead of the painful death he endured for all mankind.

A true Christians should not worship anything else than God. In this respect, technically, your friend is right. However, your friend seems to a strong bias against more traditional Christians who venerate or honour the cross, but certainly do not worship it as God.

Christians wear crosses as a symbol of our faith. Before Christ was crucified the cross was a symbol for shame & humiliation, after He rose from the dead it became a symbol of hope.

No, the cross is a very holy idea for christians because of what it represents. To Christians the cross represents Christ's sacrifice of hanging on one to save humans from damnation and free us from sin. It is a symbol not an idol.
