Let me explain...my sleep is dreamless with the exception of nightmares. I usually sleep 7 -8 hours a day. The first 7 - 7 1/2 hours are dreamless. It's almost as if i fall into a coma. However, about 25 % of the time during the last half hour I usually wake up due to a nightmare. Not worms in my soup spiders in my bed nightmare, I'm talking about watching my mother get murdered, or having to strangle my cat because it has cancer, or kicking off wild dark eyed little mexican children malicously climbing up a ladder to get me (yes, we were in Mexico and they were wild dark eyed little Mexican children climbing up a ladder after me). About 98% of all dreams I have ever had have been a nightmares...

And yes, some of the dreams are reoccuring or of the same tone. I dont watch horror or violent movies and I dont read horror books.

I didn't used to be like that, but lately I have been having a similar experience. I think, for me at least, its because my life is going through a lot of changes, and I'm experiencing a lot of stress due to that. I think its my mind's way of playing out my fears, since they are constantly on my mind. I would suggest you try a cup of chamomille tea before you go to bed; it works wonders for me.

Maybe you should stop thinking about scary and horror stuff. Dreams happen because of how you think and what you have read or watched before bed. Or maybe life is just a void black space filled with nightmares which is why you have nightmares? Some questions in life though is best left unanswered. It's better than the truth..I mean sometimes, the truth could really and truly hurt.

This used to happen to me when I was pregnant. It's weird how little things like hormones and stress can send your mind for a loop. Try taking sleeping pills (Unisom or Benadryl). That should vary your sleep a little bit, hopefully enough to solve your problem.

Also keep in mind, that most of your sleep is dreamless. You only dream for a few minutes when you sleep. And you actally go through three or four sleep cycles in an eight hour period. Chances are you only remember your dreams from the most recent sleep cycle - the dream you are having right before you wake up.

Fortunately, nightmares aren't a sign of craziness, though recurring dreams often are.

I'm sorry to hear about your nightmares and bad feelings. My father does the same thing but he is a drinker. Do you drink before bed? That might affect your sleep. Also, you probably are having dreams but most people just don't remember them. Maybe you are just remembering the nightmares about the night....Nevertheless, you shouldn't be having them so frequently and so intense. Maybe you should tell your doctor and see what he thinks. Sorry I don't have more help for you. Try meditation sometime, and especially yoga to clear all that negative energy.
