If some one's fiance is New Zealander, can he/she gets visa before they get married?

I met some one and she's in NZ now, she told me that she got visa Bcoz her fiance is New Zealander and she is going to marry him in near future, is that right? and she is working in NZ at the moment !!!!!

I'm not sure.. but, its better to check with home office website.
