This is a great, good and easy candy. It is, in fact, called "Hard Christmas Candies"
1c water
1c light Karo
31/2 c sugar
1 tsp flavoring oil and food color for color
Mix sugar, water and syrup to up to 300 degrees. Mix in the coloring and flavoring. Make sure it is OIL found in little tiny bottles. You might want to call drug stores or grocery stores first. Then cover your slab or table with sifted confectioners sugar. Pour candy on top and quickly cover the top with the sugar again. Cut with scissors into a strip at a time then into pieces. This hardens quickly, so it helps to invite a friend. My favorites are orange, green mint, red cinnamon.
Have fun!

This one isn't candy but it's a very simple and very yummy fudge recipe: 1 tin nestle condensed milk (not home brands, the fudge won't set) 500g choc bits (dark or milk) 2 tspn vanilla and almonds (as little or as much as you like), Combine condensed milk, choc bits, heat in microwave to melt. Add vanilla & almonds. Put into tray lined with baking paper. Set in fridge. Enjoy!!

"Hazelnut Toffee" - 1 3/4 lbs.
2 tsp. plus 1 cup butter; divided
1 cup sugar
3 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/3 cup chopped hazelnuts
TOPPING:
2 cups (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips

Line a 13x9x2" pan with foil; coat the foil with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
Butter the sides of a large heavy saucepan with 2 tsp. butter. Cube remaining butter; place in pan. Add the sugar, water and corn syrup. Cook and stir until mixture turns golden brown and a candy thermometer reads 300* (hard-crack stage).
Remove from heat; stir in hazelnuts. Pour into prepared pan without scraping; spread evenly. Let stand at room temperature until cool, about 1 hour.
