In addition to the first answer, ask your friend if when she was younger if she was played with roughly. Even in a manner that didnt hurt her, but caused her to use her teeth or claws, even lightly.
Sometimes they can just be playing since they think it's "ok" to play this way. They dont know it hurts you. Cats have fur and thicker skin to protect them.
Declawing a cat, can sometimes make it worse. So good for them for choosing not to.
It can however be just that she doesnt like whatever is happening to her. Might want to consider retraining her if this is the case.

Some cats get that way even when you are petting or brushing them. You usually can tell by their ears. They will start to pull them back slightly. Some cats, when feeling really good about an action do this for some odd reason. You should just stop, leave them alone, if not ignore them for a while. Call your vet on the phone, they will be able to tell you why they do this, but alot of them are like that. I had a cat once that would get so excited when I comb him, he would bite me, not hard, not mad, but his way of letting him know his emotions were being affected by this.

i think of you're able to do a sprint try first...positioned them mutually and notice in the event that they immediately entice or hiss. See I had 4 cats and that all of them hated eachother before everything (further all of them in seperate circumstances have been recused) yet little with the help of little all and sundry beginning getting alongside and earlier ya knew it you will possibly think of they have been all from an identical clutter! each so often i think of its in basic terms organic for them to in comparison to the different of thier style extremely while they did not advance up mutually....so that is beneficial to ask the adoption place in case you are able to hold him abode and notice how they react after 3 days i might say you would be waiting to tell in the event that they gets alongside or not. Like I reported each so often they actually do in comparison to eachother before everything and could stay away from eachother...i may well be greater nervous they he might get harm while they're working by the abode like maniacs and tackleing eachother hahah! I additionally think of the area that its an older lady and youthful male thats its alot diverse then with an older male and youthful lady. If the male is decalwed it would be ok yet merely watch him to verify if he trys to get on good of her and chew her neck its a fashion of them dominating eachother in case you spot him do it squirt him with a water bottle and it will wean him out of it.

They play and get carried away, that's all. Overexcited. Just say NNNOOOOOOO iin a firm voice whenever they bite or scratch. They'll get the message eventually. You can clip the tips of their nails with a (human) nail clipper, you know? Just don't cut below that dark line.

IT IS A CONTROL ISSUE, I AM SURE. I WOULD SAY THAT WHEN THE ANIMAL DOES THIS TO IMMEDIATELY WALK AWAY FROM THEM - IGNORE THE BEHAVIOR RATHER THAN PUNISH THEM. IT IS LIKE A FOUR LEGGED CHILD IN MANY WAYS - YOU DO NOT WANT TO REWARD THE ANIMAL WITH ATTENTION (GOOD OR BAD) WHEN THEY ARE ACTING IN A UNEXCEPTABLE WAY. THEIR CLAWS ARE NOT THE REASON FOR THE ACTION - SO KEEPING THEM ISNT GOING TO BETTER OR WORSEN THE SITUATION. I HAVE ANIMALS THAT ACT OUT ONCE IN A WHILE AND WALKING AWAY, IGNORING THEM OFTEN HELPS.

Sounds like shes just a bit moody. When she gets like that ignore her, like you would a child. Eventually she'll come looking for you. When she tries it on your lap push her off and ignore her again. She'll soon see that you don't like being bit or scratched. And small smack is also effective.
