I don't understand why some people are giving me thumbs down, I didn't say "I don't support the troops" I totaly appreciate what they're doing in Iraq and I want to joing the army once I finish high school. I posted this question just because I wanted to hear what other people think of US troops.

I served in Afghanistan and received quite a bit of hate mail from back home. I was injured while on patrol and upon returning home had garbage and other things thrown at me as I entered the base for my discharge. Iraq is far more controversial so I am glad that I do not have to bear coming home from Iraq and receive even worse criticism. Joining the Army was my CHOICE!. You people may not like wars but you are not fighting in it so I don't know what gives anti war protesters the right to spit on me when I am only serving my country and my countrymen, including them. We are told not to argue, but I wish they would put their time to better use than standing outside all day and ridiculing the soldiers. Fortunately others and I are far too proud to take too much offense.

I know I do. My husband is in the army and I know what kind of sacrifices he's had to make (he's missed all my son's and daughter's birthdays since he joined, all of our anniversaries, my daughter's first steps, just to name a few things) Soldiers and their families give up ALOT and no matter what someone thinks of the war that our troops are sent to they should appreciate the fact that they have people willing to fight and if need be die for them and our country's ideals. And no soldier deserves to have garbage thrown at them like Big Meanie did. That's just not right.

Many of those in Iraq are there for the third time. Instead of cut and running like many liberals have suggested they have returned to uphold our principals. Murtha has forgotten what responsibility our country has to the fallen members of the armed services. The generals should come up with a plan that works or hand in their stars and the politicians need to let the military do what is necessary to finish the job. Bad enough the elections have alarmed those seeking our support we do not need to turn our backs on sacrifices made. Being a vet I appreciate all those people have gone through. Lets resolve to win.

I appreciate all members of all the armed forces. I have a little project for Veteran's Day, some WWII guys in the neighborhood. I am 6th gen. military so I understand what the service people are going through. Best of luck to you, and safe going in your future!

The problem is not about US soldiers but about the politics behind. They serve and sacrifice to their countries (with low salary?). You have to appreciate them. They are brave and respectful.
But their image becomes bad because of the politics. After they destroy Saddam government, Iraq has been chaos until now on. Many murderers and wars are happened there, and many innocent people and children are suffered and die. Before that situation, Iraq is a solid nation, people live together based on variations of tribes and communities. So, is it the true meaning of democracy that US politics means? Actually almost people blame US government and policy, but because US soldiers have to take en-rule in that area, so people become struggle with them.
I think you have to still appreciate US soldiers, but not for politicians.

Yes. They are serving their nation as all Americans should do and it's not for the military to ask why. They are sworn to obey orders and that is very difficult in wars like this one and in Vietnam. That takes an extra bit of courage.

I absolutely appreciate our servicemen and women doing the job in Iraq, and everywhere else, for that matter. They are doing a job many other Americans can't or won't do. I think it is admirable.
