Why stop him? Its a form of protein. Check his diet, maybe he's not getting enuf hence why he is eating them. If u improve his diet u will prolly find he will stop eating them.

I would really suggest -not- killing the ants with any sort of poison as you run the risk of making your dog sick if he eats any of the, eh, languishing survivors. And while I'd second all those folks who've suggested just not worrying about it, if it truly -is- something you want to stop, you might be able to spray the ant hill with that bitter apple spray available at any pet store (erm, not sure how long it would last on living insects) ... you could also keep a close eye on your pooch and make a "correcting" noise any time he goes near the ant hill - with my dog a stern "aaht!" works, but I've known folks to use something like an empty soda can with a few coins in it (shake it to startle the dog) or one of those "clickers" you can get at a pet store ... if you're consistent in correcting your dog every time he goes near the ant hill - and better yet, if you couple that with copious praise, attention, perhaps even a treat every time he walks past the ant hill -without- stopping for a snack - he should eventually get the idea. Good luck with your goofy anteater wannabe ;)

Get rid of the ant piles before your dog does if you're really that concerned.

There's really nothing you can do about it unless you kill the ants. Dogs are just attracted to that kind of stuff. They are usually just trying to protect you, by killing all intruters.
