No. Taoism is principle-based, not deity-based. It is atheistic.

Yes and no.

There are two types of Daoism. There's philosophical Daoism (dao jia), which doesn't have deities, though there is definitely an ephemeral characteristic to the writings (which include the Dao de jing and the Zhuangzi, my personal favorite).

However, there is also a religious Daoism (dao jiao). Daoism became intertwined with Chinese folk religion in the early days and many of those gods were adopted by it. Among them are the Jade Emperor (Di), Yang Si, Dan Xia Da Sheng, and many others. The I Ching became a very important text in this strain. It also had a very strong alchemical element to it from which the Chinese emperors would often try to find immortality.

Even though it isn't really practiced any more today (and certainly not by anyone outside of China), there are still many holdovers from Daojiao, such as the burning of money when someone dies.

PS - To the person above who claims that Buddha is the founder of Daoism, you might try doing a miniscule amount of research. Buddha founded Buddhism (see how that works?) and he has nothing whatsoever to do with Daoism.

No, the Tao cannot be defined or named...

"The Way that can be told of is not an Unvarying Way;
The names that can be named are not unvarying names.
It was from the Nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang;
The named is but the mother that rears the ten thousand creatures, each after its own kind."

No they believe in Buddha but actually He is God incognito. He came to trick the atheists in believing in Him so they wouldn't suffer. He said there is no God and no soul we just all mergee. That is into Gods energy they will merg into and after billions of years they will fall back to the earth planet to get another chance to realize who God is again. So Buddha said He was just an ordinary man and said their was no God just to attract the atheists to his teachings(wow how merciful God is to help ignorant fools so not to suffer .
