The answer above is not correct.
Schrei is the german word for to yell, not Schrie. Schrier therefore is not a yeller.

The Name and spelling looks german, but I never came across that name.
If you search google Germany with Schrier you get some results, while looking up the phonebook online only brought back 1 result in Berlin.
I looked up 2 other websites for you, one about name search (genealogy) and one that lists all names of people emigrating from Germany through the port of Bremerhaven. A lot of names were changed after arrival in the US, so it might have been Schrierer as well.

So after all, there is a good chance it is German, and if yes, The chance that the other Schiers in Germany are relatives somehow is really big, since the name is not very common.

I have no idea, what it means, could be a variation of the Schrei, what I doubt, since it wouldn make sense for a name (most german names result from a profession or origin of somebody). Maybe it makes sense in some german dialect, but none that I know.

Probably the name you're thinking of is "Schreier", which is German and means one who cries out or yells. It's probably a reference to town criers, as many surnames have their origin in related professions (an example in English is "Smith", where people with that name might have been tinsmiths, for example).
