it would have to be meaningful to the viewer, like music to the listener. smells bring back memories, but it might be hard to do the reverse. i think it would be easier to paint a taste.... now that i really think about it though, i believe you can paint a smell memory even if it's ever so faint. just be prepared that it might not be the smell of what you painted as much as the smell that it invokes in the viewer if the art.

I think it's possible to paint a suggestion of a smell. Especially when it's food. As long as the painting is suggestive enough.

Yes you can but to do that you have to be creative. As for example sweet smell can be painted a man swiming in honey,a sour smell man swiming in lemon juice and fart smell man swiming in the ocean of horse-dung.

Some wavy lines going up from what has a smell should do it. Dark, yucky colours work well for a bad smell.
