...I like to dare to be different. I don't want to make or buy anything that someone else has already done. We need two gifts, one from me, one from the husband.

We make our own wine, so we've definitely overdone that. I've also done jar gifts a few times. I want something really original. Any other ideas would be fabulous.

I should add that our limit is $20 and under.

Well you could make a gift basket with a theme to it, like a meal theme. One year my mom made sauce, and jarred it, and then bought some fresh pasta, and then cute little Italian themed bowls, and some nice olive oil and cheese and put it all in a basket. It might come close to your limit, or a little over, depending on how cheap you could get everything though. . . Another idea would maybe be to bake some fresh breads, and buy little jars of various toppings for it. You could have olive oils, jams and jellys, cheese spreads, etc. and everyone loves home made bread! . . . .Or, maybe make a cookie tray. There are SO many cute holiday cookies to make, and just buy a pretty platter to arrange them on, shrink wrap them, and you're done. That's a little predictable though, if you're looking for something out of the ordinary!

Wal Mart sells already made infused oils...with chili peppers, rosemary..and so one..They are pretty cheap in price. What about a few of those with a nice loaf of crusty bread. Or if you have the time you can make up a couple bottles of limoncello

4 cups vodka
Zest of 10 lemons, no pith at all, may substitute 15 limes, 6 grapefruits, 10 blood oranges, 12 mandarin oranges, or 8 regular oranges
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups water

Place vodka and zest in a sealable jar, like a mason jar and allow to sit in a cool place for 4 days. On the fifth day place the sugar and the water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Allow to cook 5 minutes, remove from heat and allow to cool. Add sugar solution to the vodka solution and allow to stand overnight. Strain through a layer of cheesecloth in a conical sieve, pressing the solids firmly. Strain again through a second layer in the same manner. Chill and allow to stand 1 week. Serve very cold.

Everyone brings a wrapped gift (decide ahead if you want them to bring gag gifts or gifts of a certain value) and they should not put a tag on the gift. All gifts go into one big area in the cener of the room, while you have chairs for everyone to sit in a circle around the gifts. Put slips of paper in a basket numbered from 1 to 20 (or however many guests are participating). Pass the basket and let everyone pick a number. The person in charge calls out #1. Whoever has number 1 can pick any gift from the pile. Next, #2 is called. That person can choose to either pick a gift from the pile or take another person's gift from them (in that case, the person who had their gift taken from them can pick a replacement gift from the pile). This continues until all numbers have been called and all participants have a gift. At that time, everyone may open their gifts!

1) Maybe you could make a vegetable party basket: skewer radish roses, cherry tomatoes, broccoli flowerets, cauliflorets, etc. Cut a cabbage head in half; place in bottom of basket. Stick skewered veggies into the cabbage, creating a "flower arrangement". (Offer with a jar of homemade dip?)
2) If the recipient is a BBQ chef, stock a basket with tongs, skewers, pot holders and condiments. Or, for a brunch/breakfast gift, fill a basket with fresh eggs, a skillet, an egg coddler, wire whip, etc. Or, just a basic cook's basket, fill with wooden utensils, a small wooden cutting board, kitchen timer, a couple of kitchen towels, set of measuring spoons, wire whisk, blank recipe cards, spatula.

Tweak these ideas with your 20-dollar budget and what you might already have around the house.

Seasoned olive oils for dipping from you, and a couple of homemade breads to dip in them from your husband! I would LOVE to get that as a gift, and you could make the bottle really beautiful with a wax seal and some raffia.

My Mom made flavored vinegars one year, and put them in beautiful bottles. You can probably fid recipes on-line.
I remember them as lovely, bright jewel-tones!
(Raspberry was one of them)
You could do infused oils, too.

Good luck--that sounds like a lot of fun!
