say your boyfriend of a year who you were about to move in with etc, called you "stupid" while you were cuddling on the couch with him...and he did it bc you did something silly or "blonde" so he says "stupid..." jokingly while laughing. and you giggled back and playfully hit him. and then when he went back home (long dist relationship) on the phone he was doing the same thing when you did/said something wierd. would you be offended? take a break from him? if you knew he was kidding around. would it be a big deal?

Lately I've been saying to him things like "don't be dumb," "don't be stupid" and he doesnt blink twice or react in anyway to it. it doesnt bother him in the least.

I still think calling you stupid is a bit disrespectful and negative. If he thinks something you do it silly, or whatever - that is fine. But he shouldn't be insulting about it.

It is a big deal, would he like it if you called him stupid?
Personally if someone kept on calling me stupid, I would pack his stuff and kick him out, you don't need this crap from anyone especially from b/f. He sounds like a real jerk, would you like me to sort him out for you?
I have a chainsaw in my garage I keep handy for these occasions.
P.S I am very skilled with a chainsaw as I have seen Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre a few thousand times.

What you need to do is tell him, that you do not appreciate him calling you stupid, may be it was a joke, but I find it offensive. You need to find a way to communicate with him, by the way, that is the key for a good relationship!

Not to me because my husband and I do it back and forth. He doesn't think I'm a stupid person and I don't think he is either. It's the act that is stupid but still my husband isn't insulting me. We joke this way.

My boy friend tells me all the time that im stupid and blonde, and i really dont take if offensiveley.. I know he dosent mean it.. and he still loves me, he dosent have to say i love you for me to know that.. and he dosent have to have HUGE respect for me eiter.. i mean ok wow he haves to have a little respect for me but no exagerated.. like he could make fun of me..
If it bothers you taht much just tell him and make sure he dosent tell you that anymore..

in person it might have been funny, because you can see that they are joking. however, over the phone, you cant tell that they are joking exaclty. if you are upset, just tell him not too say stuff like that. he'll probably understand if you say it seriously

He shouldn't be calling you stupid.
You need to address this with him and make sure he understands that it bothers you and then if he doesn't fix it....lose him.
You should be with someone who adores you, not someone who degrades you.
