Watch your caffeine intake. Colas, hot chocolate, chocolate, all contain caffeine. It's not just in coffee and tea. Try not having any caffeine after 6 pm and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes, reading about 1/2 an hour before you want to go to sleep also helps. Try not to watch TV with violence or disturbing themes in the evening.

Good luck.

First, at what time do you usually try to fall asleep? This is an important factor as our bodies truely get the best rest between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. If you are trying to make your body sleep when 1) it is not necessarily tired or 2) the sleeping "conditions" aren't right.

When you aren't tired, it isn't really better to "force" your body into sleeping. You should be sure that you get 8 hours of sleep each night, but it is important to consider that this amount of time should not be exceeded as well. In other words, getting more than 8 hours of sleep can cause just as many problems as getting less than 8 hours.

In addition, good sleeping conditions must be available in order for your body to get a deep, replenishing sleep. First, the room should be dark. It is amazing how much of an effect this can have on your sleeping. Second, the amount of noise should be minimal. Some light, quiet music is fine...actually, can be quite good...but loud T.V. or music should be avoided while sleeping.

I am a long suffering insomniac so I can understand. First stop and try to figure out a reason. Is this an occasional or a regular occurance? Try some simple routine changes first. Don't use your bedroom for anything except sleep(well and sex). Have a regular time to go to sleep and to get up. Dont eat or exercise 2 hours before bed. Have a warm bath or drink warm milk before bedtime. If you are still having problems sleeping try an otc sleep aid like nytol but start with 1/2 a tablet. If things get real bad see your doctor to check for other reasons which may contribute to your sleep problem. Good Luck
