Call the Fish and Game Commission for your state. They should be able to help you greatly. They will also advise you on fishing regulations concerning issues such as licensing or size of fish to keep or release. You wouldn't want to be caught by a game warden doing something illegal. Or call the Chamber of Commerce in your city. They should know this, and also give you information about cities near you. You can also look on a map, and simply look for the blue areas and see what they're called and how close they are to you. You can also watch fishing shows on TV- information such as you're looking for can sometimes be found on their websites, which may provide you with specific information. Another choice is to go to your local yellow pages or the Yahoo Yellow pages, and enter your area as a location, then search using fishing terms such as bait shops (bait shops could tell you for sure), fishing, etc. Good luck, and catch a big one!

Google "fishing" + "Insert name of new city here" + "insert name of state here".

The State Department of Hunting & Fishing for each state maintains very thorough information on fishing opportunities, right down to what's hot in each location.

I live in the land of 10,000 lakes. Best way to find out about great fishing spots is to ask your co-workers, neighbors, classmates, and bums. Plus, its a great way to start up a conversation.
