There have been many 18 year olds already sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. This is not uncommon, and their blood is just as red as the 30 and 40 year olds.

18 is not too young to be sent off to war; it's old enough to vote in the U.S., and old enough to drink in most countries in the world. More Americans in car accidents between the ages of 16 and 20 die every year in the US than have died thus far in the Iraq war between the ages of 18 and 60, so you do the math and figure out just which is safer. The military is at war, not the nation; the nation has more or less been going on as it always has, war or not, save perhaps the political arena and slight rises in the price of fuel (yes, they were slight--try complaining about 2 or 3 dollars a gallon to a German or Briton who's had to pay the equivalent of 5 or 6 dollars a gallon their whole life!) Comparitively few 18-year olds bother to vote, but at least they're ensuring their right to vote and the rights of others to vote by serving their country for a few years of their lives.

You can join the Army at 17 with your parents' permission, but you can't be sent to war until you're 18. I don't think that 18 is too young to go to war. Actually, I think that NO ONE should have to go to war. There are just some things that we can experience that seem inhumane. Unfortunately, war is a necessary evil in this world (at least some wars are necessary), and somebody has to fight them. Of course, you'd want to send adults who are young and strong, not old and weak.

There thousands of 18 year olds who were sent into combat, fought, lived and died bravely. The military has changed a lot in that respect, now they seem to care how young a soldier is.

I'm not sure what the rules are today, but just for added information, I joined the Marines at 17 (with parent or guardian signature). I couldn't Be sent to Vietnam until I was 18. Great birthday present, huh ?

18 is not that young to be involved in a war, a bullet from an 18 year old is just as deadly as from a 25 year old, not to mention that you know you can vote when your 18, you have a responsibility to give back to your country in some way, it does so much for you.

You must be 18 before you can be sent to war.....You WILL NOT even be sent to Kuwait when you are 17, whoever said that..... I am on my second tour, I was 20 during my first deployment, and 24 now.
___________________________________________________
farkas....maybe you should read your post again....here i'll post it for you:
farkas419 (It's 18. If a person is seventeen, they have to stay in Kuwait until they turn eighteen.
As for the person below me who said that a person can't be sent to Kuwait at seventeen, I know this for a fact from other people here who have KNOWN seventeen year olds who were sent there, and had to wait until their 18th birthday to be sent to Kuwait. Our guys here deploy every other year. )
It looks to me you are holding 2 positions on this, which is your decision 18 or 17 to be sent to Kuwait? Read this very closely....maybe you typed it wrong....but i can tell you that your knowledge of this isn't correct. This is my second deployment with the Army, and on both prior to leaving we have to do a SRP (Soldier Readiness Process) and part of the SRP you have to fill out history on yourself. One of the questions specifically asks.......Are you under the age of 18? if it is a YES, YOU WILL NOT GO........Also in the military there is a system called RLAS which I frequently use in my civilian job working for the Army....There are these codes called "non-deployable codes" you can be coded non-deployable for several reasons and one of them specifically says "under age 18". I have extensive knowledge on this and you MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE PRIOR TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY FOR A WAR ZONE, thank you.
FOR MORE REFERENCE FROM A FELLOW VETERAN SEE BLINDOGBENS POST BELOW....THANK YOU
