that depends. Is it an American ton or a metric ton(ne)?? The standard ton is 2000 lbs. A metric tonne is 1000 kg or 2204 lbs usually just noted as 2200 lbs. Did you really need to ask this basic a question on an international forum?? Makes ya look a bit... umm ... slow doncha think?

There are actually three versions of "ton".

There is the "short ton" which is 2000 lbs.
There is the "long ton" which is 2204 lbs (and happens to be equal to the metric tonne).
The metric "tonne" is 1000 kg (which happens to correspond to the long ton).

Before the metric system confused matters, a ton weighs 2240 (not 2204) pounds. 2204 pounds is the weight of a tonne, being 1,000 kilograms.
A pound is now defined to be the weight of 453.59237 grams, the reciprocal of that is 2.2046226 so a metric tonne would weigh 2204.6226 pounds.
