It was fun, but it was also hard at times. Being away from home a combined total of about nine months or so a year can wear on you. You get to travel to alot of great places and see many things. Underway, you work, and you sleep, find time to lift weights, watch movies, or what ever you can think of to pass the time. I worked on the flight deck in catapults. We worked until the flying was done, then worked on the cats to keep them working, then started flight operations all over, so we really only had free time in port or when we weren't flying, which wasn't too often. But overall the experience was a once-in-a-lifetime deal that I always remember fondly.

22 years. 38 countries. just retired. NO REGRETS. Sure you may spend some tiime away from family or friends, but that's part of the adventure. Go out and see the world instead of watching it on TV. Can you think of anything better to do than travel around the globe for free for a few years?

My husband loved it. Although he was in it before there was the war, so I'm sure it's totally different now. He like that he traveled and seen so many countries and met so many different people. If you are thinking about joining the armed forces, the Navy is the best one to go into.

well it depends on the rate you choose to go in to. i was a corpsman for 5 yrs. i spent my whole time green side( with the marines). i loved were i was i just got tired of seeing the lame weak and lazy every day, so i had to move on. as far as the other rates some i would suggest staying away from are, dental techs, machenist mates ( unless you don't like the sun) boiler techs ( same reason as mm) you should be getting the point as to what I'm saying.

My fiancee likes it to a degree. He likes his job, but it's the people he has to work with that he doesn't care for. There's a lot of office politics where he was just at, and he's in a position where if he's not willing to kiss the asses of his higher ups (which he's not) he gets kicked around a lot. But he's been deployed and he's liking it much better now.

I found it tough and demanding, but extremely rewarding, I've been places and seen things I wouldn't have any other way. I was a 20 year man, I retired in '92, right after Desert Storm.
