What's there to fear? Does morality frighten you? Are you arrogant and don't want to bow down to the God that made you? How do you know that there isn't a God? It's a 50/50 chance. Heck, it would be scarier to me if there was no God. Who's going to stop us from destroying our planet? Who's going to stop us from destroying ourselves?

I understand you can be an Atheist and be moral. However, some don't believe in God because they want to do what they want to do and not bow down to a God that me have requirements.

Inciting Atheists is fun! Such scornful, hateful answers! And yet they say the same things about us being "intolerant." They won't even listen to us.

Actually, very few atheists exist anyway, or if they do it is in complete inconsistency. A true atheist would also be an anarchist. Thus robbing, pillaging, murdering at will should be no problem for them (i.e. the law of the jungle, eat or be eaten) An animal wouldn't think twice about stealing if it benefited the individual.

Most people that claim to be atheists then, I would say, yes are uncertain that their agnostic beliefs hold real truth, and are at odds with becoming true atheists and denying all sense of morality.

Why do they hold on to morality that in its origin was derived from God? Usually when you hate something you would tend to distance yourself as far from it as possible, however the atheists, in their walk in society at least, for the most part, seem to live according to the same laws as believers.

It's a contradiction they can't escape until embracing the only thing they claim to believe....that is that we are nothing more than an animal, a part of the accident called the milky way.....earth and its nearest neighbors.

Very few are willing to do this.....the rest end up on America's most wanted.

You seem to be suffering from emotional fear and pride. First, morality is a human concept and religion is not the fist institution to try and instill a sense of morality in it's group. Morality is exclusivly a human thing, you can see this by the horrible things that go on in this world, I'm talking about the things that are out of human influence, if God exist, then he is by no means moral. It is by no means moral to send people to hell for all eternity for being sinful for the short period which is your life, or not believing in God. True morality would dictate that God would reform all of those who need it and still let them into heaven. The concept of morality it self is an attempt by all to keep each other from destroying ourselves. I am not an Atheist, but logic would dictate that Atheist do not fall victim to fear as easily as most, this is not a common trait in human beings, and could be the reason why there are not as many Atheist as people of faith. You said it your self "Heck, it would be scarier to me if there was no God". I find this to be illogical, that you see fear in the very people who can not be bullied or feared into a belief. Why in your mind would it be so bad for human beings to take responsibility for them selves and try to make a new world where we do not destroy our selves? This is a universal law of nature, those that can not adapt, do not deserve to exist, you see this in nature all the time and there is nothing we can do about it. The thing you should really be worried about, is hoping that we have what it takes as a species to survive and evolve to the next level, if not then everything has been a big waste of time for you and the children of man kind to come. What you are doing in this question is assuming something that you can not prove, sort of what your doing with your religious beliefs.

Oh so ignorant of the truth!! Atheists KNOW there is no such thing as gods!! Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking. They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!! Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!! Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely. Sadly Christians are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!! You would be better asking yourself why Christians are so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!!!!!!

Probably one of the most stupid questions I've seen on here for some time.
1. How can I fear something I don't believe in?
2. How can I bow down to somebody I don't believe in?
3.I don't KNOW there isn't a god any more than you know there IS one. I BELIEVE there isn't a god.
4. How can you call yourself a believer when you say that it's only 50/50 that there is a god? If you believe, it's 100% that there is.
5. The sensible, intelligent people on this planet are already trying to save it and themselves. It's only the thoughtless weirdos who are taking no notice - or relying on some non-existent being to help out.

No, I don't fear that something nonexistent is existent.

What's there to fear? Nothing. There is no God to fear. Hence I am an atheist.

Does morality frighten me? Not at all. I have been told by several Christians that I am a very moral person. It doesn't scare me to be the way I am.

Am I arrogant? No. Knowing the truth isn't arrogant. It's being informed.

It's NOT a 50/50 chance. Yours isn't the only god that threatens punishment for failing to worship it and/or recognize it. It's not a contest between YOUR god and atheism. If it WERE a contest, it would be between YOUR god, the 1000's of other gods that are believed to exist, and atheism.

Who stops us? It's not "who" but "what". Our humanity stops us.

Again, it's not "who" will stop us from destroying ourselves but "what". Again, humanity will.

I am not afraid there is a God because if there is & he's all that he's made out to be, why should I be afraid of him - he's meant to be all forgiving right? You don't have to be religious to be moral. I believe in treating people how I wish to be treated myself.

I don't see how any person can deny evolution, & my parents made me, through love, not any God. I have religious friends and family, and think that every person has the right to faith if they wish, and although I'm an atheist I would never push my beliefs on to people as some people with faith do. I personally don't believe there's a God because how can I believe in something that no-one has ever seen or proven to exist. Evolution has been proven over & over.

We've got to stop ourselves destroying our planet & ourselves, we are all in charge of our own lives & the future lives of our ancestors.

This question is asked no less than 5 times a day.

Fear has nothing to do with it. Morals have nothing to do with faith as far as the atheist is concerned. They answer to themselves for their own actions. If you feel less afraid of the world by believing in God, that's your right. Unfortunately, leaving the world in "god's hands" won't save the world. Only human beings taking action, rather than hoping for the best, will save the planet. Remember, god didn't point out the hole in the ozone layer, science did. God didn't wipe out whole species such as the dodo, natural selection did (granted man had a hand in it, but the point stands).

I would imagine that they would have the same feelings as you would if someone asked you if you are afraid that there is no God. Imagine it was proved there was no God would your world come crashing down? What would you have left in your life if there was no God? You have answered that question yourself!
You're right it is a 50/50 chance and could go either way, no one actually knows 100% whether God exists or not.
Athiests have their beliefs and Christians have theirs, why keep trying to prove eachother wrong? A Christian trying to prove an Athiest is wrong about their belief is no different from a Muslim trying to convince a Christian they are wrong about their belief and where has that got us in the world today.
Why can't people just just let everyone get on with their own lives and stop hassling everybody about theirs.
I have an open mind with regard to all religion and the way people of ALL religions act towards eachother makes me question their religious intentions. The more comments I hear on here about Athiests the more I favour their way of life, cos the Christian attitude to people of other faiths on here and around me doesn't convince me that they are leading the righteous, virtuous and tolerant life they claim to.

"What's there to fear? Does morality frighten you?"

A: Atheists don't fear deities. They simply don't believe in them. I've yet to meet an Atheist that doesn't adhere to a morality, so your second question makes absolutely no sense and pretty much assumes a derogatory trait of Atheists.

"Are you arrogant and don't want to bow down to the God that made you?"

A: Does a god exist to bow down to? Let us assume that there was a god that existed; should we simply bow down to it because it is one? Shouldn't we evaluate the integrity of said deity first?

"How do you know that there isn't a God?"

A: It's possible, but because there's a lack of evidence and an application of Occam's Razor, its unreasonable to assume there is one.

"It's a 50/50 chance."

A: Not at all. The same reasoning you apply to this you could apply to square circles and claim that they have a 50/50 percent chance of existing. You do not take into account the fact that a deity may be internally contradictory, nor do you examine any external factors that may bias the possibilities...

"Heck, it would be scarier to me if there was no God. Who's going to stop us from destroying our planet? Who's going to stop us from destroying ourselves?"

A: Nothing will stop us from doing these things. All the more reason not to do them...

I can't speak for other Athiests and consider myself to be more Gnostic (seeking truth) I believe in only science and fact, If you take the time to learn about the cosmos/physics you eventually come to an understanding of how large the universe really is, and when you do the math (as done on Carl Sagan's new Cosmos series) it works out to about 1 million other intelligent civilizations capable of radio communications existing right now in our very own galaxy (one of billions of galaxies) which are so far away from each other that we could never communicate let alone travel there, even when we do eventually find a good prospective star system. Granted his formula is only theory it is based on probable facts and as we all know many theories come to be known as fact especially in astronomy! Maybee a better example would be this: If you had two guys telling you how to dig a hole in a land mine field, which would you trust,The one with dirt under his fingernails or the one telling You to dig!
Once you understand that you are a part of something bigger then you no longer feel like an insignificant speck and no longer fear to be rejoined with the energy and matter and energy of our galaxy which is constantly recycled over the aeons. Good luck in your quest!

Let me attempt to answer a few of your questions here.

First you ask if morality frightens (atheists). No. It is quite possible to be moral without any kind of God figure. Besides, God himself is guilty of breaking is own morality. He gave the law of "thou shalt not kill" and yet he has killed many in the name of righteousness. What does this say about a personage that apparently cannot live up to their own rules? Sounds to me that God is no more moral than any living human.

You ask why (atheists) don't want to "bow down". Do your parents make you bow down before them. They made you, right? So by your definition you must eternally show obeyance to subjugation to them. Anyone that demands this kind of obeyance is not worthy of it.

Finally you ask who's going to stop us from destroying ourselves and our planet. When are we going to stop blaming the devil or God for our conditions here on Earth? We have free will (supposedly) and as such it will ultimately be up to us to keep from destroying ourselves. Just as children ultimately have to take responsibility for ourselves we will ultimately need to take responsibility for ourselves as a people.
