alcohol doesnt concern me because i dont do not drink and contacting the dead doesnt concern me either because i dont do that also..

That only takes place WHILE you are performing your vow, i.e., no haircuts, wine or alcohol while fasting...
Which is why you should be WISE in choosing which "vow" or promise to make before you do so. Otherwise there's no sense in making a vow, is there? If you vow not to eat meat for a month, then make it last for a whole month... and nothing less than that time frame.
