Good point bbjones. I tried to fit the 'shall' in my question but YA didnt' have enough characters. What point in the future with respect to Abraham's time is meant in Gen 12:3, I wonder. Is the Abrahamic Covenant merely descriptive, or prescriptive for the children of Abraham?

Hey you folks, I'm bowled over that although several different perspectives are represented here, there was not a single incident of bashing of anyone's religion. Well done.

So I'd better pick a best answer soon before that happens.

Nikki--the reminder about Abraham being justified through faith, not the Law, is a timely reminder after all the discussions I've been involved in today about Old Testament Law and the Christian.

Cotterell&Michelle,BBjones,Mike, logtig, stacey, beekay, linnepoo (did I get you all?) all linked this verse's fulfillment with either the advent of the Messiah (whom some of you identified as Jesus) and/or the return of the Jewish people to their homeland, whereupon all nations of the world would dwell in peace. There seems to be agreement among Jews and Christians on this matter, disagreement as to who the Messiah is.

Unique. WorshipfulHeart indicates ways in which this ultimate fulfillment is foreshadowed by results of obedience by the faithful.

Woops Mo-mosh, I forgot you. Your answer seems to be supported by history. The Jews have survived as a people that has retained its cultural identity, tremendous persecution throughout millenia. Time seems to bury the nations that persecuted them, while the Jews remain to this day.

Taken out of context though (the context that includes the fact that we will be judged on how we treat EVERYONE) your statement could be taken as mandating support for military action against anyone who stands in the way of Israel being inhabited by Jews only. Even the people who identified themselves as Jews here (thru their recommendation to consult a rabbi), disagreed with the occupation of Palestine.

I hear a lot of people bashing the Jewish people, mostly out of jealousy, they see how, as a whole, blessed and prosperous the Jewish people are- I see that there is a higher intelligence and higher rate of success amongst the Jewish people- I truly believe this is because the Jewish people as a whole take God's instructions seriously, they do not take for granted the covenant that God made with Abraham. God created the world with certain laws and principles in motion and obedience to God's word brings blessing and I believe that this is what has happened amongst the Jewish people. For the rest of the world, I believe that God made a way for us to be grafted in- this is described in the Bible but basically, having a respect for the Jewish people, seeing that the ways they are set apart as a Holy people are for a reason and recognizing the picture of the Messiah in those ways rather than looking down on them, opens the door for the same blessing for the gentiles as well.

Abraham wasn't a Jew per se, because the Ishmaelites and 6 Middle Eastern families sprung from him. However it is through the line of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Judah ( Genesis 49: 10) David that the Messiah was to come who would bring blessings to all mankind regardless of race. ( 1 Timothy 2:3,4)

The nations of the world will be judged based on how they treat the Jews, and will receive blessing through blessing the Jews.

You can see how this works by studying history. You can chart the high and low points of each nation based on how they treated their Jews.

I assume this refers partially to the Covenant and partly to the promised land of Israel. I think a rabbi would be a better Old Testament authority than I would. Personally, I think Israel was promised to them, but it doesn't make the occupation of Palestine right. However, as far as living in peace goes, it is a promise that recognition of the Holy Land and the Israelite's existence will lead us down the road to peace, so that all can live in harmony, excluding Islamic fundamentalists, who will be in jail.

Abraham first won the gospel via baptism (it particularly is the covenant of salvation). Then he had conferred upon him the better priesthood, and he entered into celestial marriage (it particularly is the covenant of exaltation), gaining insurance thereby that he could have eternal boost. finally he won a promise that each and one and all of those advantages could be presented to all of his mortal posterity. secure interior the divine provides to Abraham have been the assurances that one million Christ could come via his lineage, and that 2 Abraham’s posterity could acquire particular lands as an eternal inheritance. those provides taken collectively are stated as the Abrahamic covenant. It grew to become into renewed with Isaac and returned with Jacob. The parts of the covenant that pertain to non-public salvation and eternal boost are renewed with each and each guy or woman who gets the ordinance of celestial marriage. those of non-Israelite lineage, usually regular as gentiles, are observed into the abode of Israel, and grow to be heirs of the covenant and the seed of Abraham, via the ordinances of the gospel. The Church decrease than direction of Peter and the Twelve, and appearing decrease than the preparation of the Spirit, declared that circumcision grew to become into optionally available for gentile converts. although, it apparently did no longer settle the issue of no count if or no longer Jewish individuals of the Church ought to have their toddlers circumcised. As one reads the scriptures on the issue, it particularly is going to become glaring that the real subject grew to become into no longer circumcision purely, yet in addition the bigger question as to persisted observance of the regulation of Moses via individuals of the Church. The be conscious circumcision seems to have been representative of the regulation in those cases.

The Gospel of Christ is preached everywhere

Galatians 3:16
Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.

Galatians 3:29
And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
