I apologize to all who answered my question yesterday about side effects. Today, I am looking for persons that have used this and have had possitive effects; how long did it take. I have noticed a lot of the persons that have used this and I have spoke to my doctor have experianced weight loss. Has anyone had this. My doctor suggested the weightloss is contributed to not eating to comfort oneself as most people don't realize they do when they are depressed. Please serious, HONEST ANSWERS ONLY! I am debating the use, I know it can benefit me, however I am very phobic of medication. Thank you

I take prozac, it is my second time on it. The first time I was miserable, I felt like crap constantly, and it didn't help me at all. Then my doctor took me off of it, and switched me to zoloft, the lexapro, then back to prozac. There was such a difference. I love my prozac now, I've been on it for a year, and have gotten to the point where I know its affects so well I can alter my usage for my day, like for different classes. Just give it time, it will start to be awesome

I have never used Prozac, but my husband did as well as his ex- wife did and I have heard a few stories from him. My husband has restless leg syndrome, and because the doctors didn't know what his real problem was they put him on Prozac.
He said that it made him have some horrible thoughts...when he was drying dishes with his wife and had a knife in his hand, he thought about what it would be like to stab her! Nice...huh!
He also said that his wife thought that Prozac was the best thing since since sliced bread. However, he did say that her personality changed, and that it did not change for the better.
I have been on another anti-depressant, and have gained weight! Other people I have talked to have also gained weight on an anti-depressant, probably, because they slow down your metabolism. Another symptom I experienced was tiredness.
I suggest that your read up on Prozac before you actually take it. Also, ask your doctor if their is another drug that you can take that doesn't have the bad side - effects that Procaz does.

Have used it. Works great. As with any medication, people get different results from using it. Initially, weight loss is one of the side affects which is great for people like me. It usually goes away. Yes, in some people with depression, we do medicate ourselves with food to fill a need missing from our lives. It is a form of nurturing oneself to feel better. Sometimes, the medication takes away that need so you won't be eating as much. However, during this time when you feel better and are able, is the time to initiate therapy with a psychologist or therapist to get to the source of your depression. Prozac and other similar medications are not intended for long term use. If you can get your issues resolved with therapy then hopefully you can wean off the med. eventually.

I was on Prozac for a couple of years. It helped a lot with my mood. I didn't really gain or lose weight. I did feel extremely tired all the time though. That's one of the reasons I quit using it and not to mention the fact I had no desire at all for sex. When I did have sex I couldn't orgasm either. I switched to Wellbutrin and that was much better. Had no side affects.

I was on Prozac for approximately six months or so. I did lose weight on it but one of the side effects is "suicide attempts" and I just so happened to get that side effect. I tried to end my life more than once but thank god that it didn't work. I have my first grandchild due in two weeks and am so excited that I could jump up and down.

I have had bipolar many, many years of my life. Prozac (I have taken it over the last 10+ years worked very well for me along with other medications) for the depressive side of my disorder. I have had no ill side effects to date. What works for one may not work for another. You basically just have to work with your doctor in finding out what is right for you. I have tried natural healing & for me it was just to prevalent by heredity. I have it on both sides of my grandparents. Good luck!
