maybe, his friends don't like you so he just goes with the flow and doesn't want to be embarrassed by them knowing that he likes you.

So you don't know him, but you know he talks bad about you... I must have missed something, could you shed light on all the facts?
Based on first opinion and next to no facts. You say you don't know him and that you know he is talking bad about you...
Two most probable scenarios come to mind.
1) you're paranoid.
2) You've either inadvertantly ticked him off OR you ticked him off and did not bother to clue us in to that fact.
Third scenario.
3) He's delusional thinking that he's asked you out, but believes you told him no.
Fourth and least likely scenario.
4) The guy likes you and thinks this is a clever way to get you to talk with him. "Why are you saying such mean things about me?" Boo hoo hoo.. "I'm sorry... I didn't really mean any of those things, let me buy you a coke..." Then you get to talking and you find out that you don't mind him that much and think he's a great guy. So you start dating, fall in love, get married, have 2.5 kids...

He probably thinks you are perfect. Perhaps more to the point thinks YOU think you are perfect and it seems the concept bugs him.
He probably thinks he is cutting you down to size, but he may also be identifying admiration and envy toward you. To me, a guy who would say mean and hurtful things about a person he doesn't know, certainly isn't worth the time and effort of confrontation.
If he's hurting your reputation and you can compile evidence, do so and present your case to the authoritative body of where this is all taking place. I sympathize deeply with you on this and sincerely hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction and soon!

This is just straight out gossip avoid him at all cost he is trash.He is talking bad about you even without getting to know you this is not shyness your only fooling yourself next week he will probably say you slept with a whole football team i"m sure you would'nt like that .

Sounds like a winner. Sounds like he is a ahole and for some reason doesn't like you. Then again that probably means you are attracted to him. I am going by they way you are wording this that he is talking bad about you. It also depends on age. Now if he jokes around with you in a playful manner then he may like you, but if he is going around talking about you to other people then he really doesn't like you.

maybe he likes you and got this ego thing going on because you don't pay him any attention. He figures he keeps talking crap about you and don't even know you sooner or later you'll confront him. And maybe he'll have the pleasure of finally being in your company.

its hard to tell dont fret over this guy he's not that important to be all moody about. If I were you I would confront the guy about him talking bad about you and see if you can tell the truth about if he really likes you or he's just trying to annoy you.

who knows what the hell a guy is thinking about. maybe they do like you or maybe they just like to joke around for fun. well who knows, i mean, guys are jerks too but i still like guys. but it depends only though.
