First off, highlighting is a term for dimensional placement of color in the hair.....no matter what method you choose to use to get there. Weather it's a baliage technique, foiled, weaved, etc those are methods of application. With your hair type you don't have a choice. I certainly hope you don't expect ANYONE in their right might to pull your hair through a cap! That is a method for people with VERY short hair ONLY. I use a cap about once a month and I do SEVERAL full heads of foil highlights every day. The only time I use a cap is when it is absolutely too short to hold the foils in....I'm talkin' SHORT!! Using a cap on long hair is a bad idea as well due to the fact that the stylist has virtually no control over tha placement of the color. And they can't be satisfactorily touched up.

Not to mention....you are paying for the stylist's time. You have, by your own admission, long, thick, curly hair and that takes a tremendous amount of time. That is something you'll pay for no matter WHAT method you choose!

if you have thick curly hair you want your stylist to foil your hair. the other option would be pulling your hair through a frosting cap which doesn't hi-lite as pretty as foil.i know it is more expense because it takes more time and more work,i promise you are getting your money worth

highlighting- rip bits of your hair and scalp through a cap and bleach it, heat it and rip cap off with surviving strands of hair.
foiling- place foil at scalp and weave stands of hair onto it, apply bleach or colour, fold up the foil and put you under the dryer.
Advantage to foiling... less hair loss from pulling cap off, a more natural look AND a way better way to get at roots (they can apply the bleach/colour to roots and not the entire strand of hair. (Good news if your hair is a bit over processed!

DO NOT DO IT YOUR SELF! THE USAGE OF THE CAP IS FOR SHORT HAIR ONLY, IF YOU USE IT AND YOUR HAIR IS LONG, YOU WILL HAVE SPOTS. THEY USE FOILS BECAUSE THERE'S A MORE NATURAL LOOK AND ALSO A MORE CLEAN LOOK. I PERSONALLY DON'T RECOMEND IT.
