I has a chest X ray done when I was 8 weeks pregnant with my first. I did not know I was pregnant at that stage (long story! lol) so I had no protection of my abdomen. When I found out I was pregnant I worried that she would be born with problems but she was perfectly fine. You had protection so I am sure you and your baby will be fine.

Yeah dont stay in pain. Being pregnant you still have to take things to help you out if you have a bladder infection, ear infection or tooth infection. You cant suffer with it. Dont worry about the dentist. I also had a tooth infection that was sooo bad I thought i was dying. I went to the dentist had an xray with one vest and took antibiotics, and tylenol with codeine, and then had my tooth pulled with the novicaine of course. So Its all ok to do. My doctor said its ok, the dentist also knows what to do with pregnant women. I also had to go during my 3rd trimester and get another xray done and had other work done on my teeth. My baby was born perfectly healthy. No problems. He is a healthy vibrant 3 year old now. Dont suffer

First of all, the x-ray is of your head, not your abdomen or entire body.
Second, I'm sure that your ob took the fact that the dentist would have to do an x-ray into account when he wrote the letter.
Third, my mother had x-rays done in her first trimester when she was expecting my sister. She had every tooth in her head pulled. My sister was born perfectly healthy and is currently going for her Master's degree.
Fourth, your dentist is surely aware of what is safe to do to a patient in their first trimester.
Fifth, why don't you take this up with your ob?
Sixth, there is no point in worrying yourself to a frazzle now. The deed is done. What will be will be.

The policies of most x-ray departments is to ask whether a female is pregnant or not and if she is to shield her abdomen with a lead apron for added protection. You will be fine and so will your baby because the amount of radiation is very small when it comes to dental x-rays. I don't think ephrin-ephrin is a word but am guessing that you didn't have nitrous oxide or perhaps a local anesthetic? Your doctor and dentist will take good care of you and your baby. Good luck and relax.

There is absolutely no risk to the baby.
The latest Radiation Regulations (UK and Australia) for treating pregnant women have removed the use of lead aprons, except "...for psychological reasons...". In other words it makes Mum feel better. That gives you an indication of how tiny the risk is. I don't use aprons for anyone nowadays.
As for the anaesthetic, I can't see why you had to do it without epinephrine. If anything, the inclusion of epinephrine would be slightly preferred because it would lessen the amount of free anaesthetic in your bloodstream, and give you better pain relief for longer. However, this is only an academic difference and will have made no difference to you and baby.

IT'S REASONABLE FOR YOU TO BE WORRIED. AN X-RAY IS ALSO KNOWN TO DOCS. AS IONIZING RADIATION. A PERSON RECEIVES MORE RADIATION BY FLYING FROM LA TO NY THAN IS FROM 1 DENTAL RADIO-GRAPH (X-RAY).
REPEATED EXPOSURE TO X-RAYS W/O PROTECTION IN THE 1st TRIMESTER CAN CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS.
REMEMBER THAT AN X-RAY TRAVELING TOWARDS YOUR BABY WILL BE 1st. ABSORBED BY WHAT COMES FIRST (MAINLY THE MOTHER HERSELF - NOT TO MENTION THE LEAD VEST), SO THERE IS NO REAL NEED TO BE CONCERNED.

You get more radiation from watching tv for a few hours or taking an airplane flight or living in denver. So if you watch tv skip it for a few weeks and you will be more than ahead.

As long as you tell the dentist and technician that you're pregnant, you will be fine. And it's very important to get check-ups while you're pregnant. It's very hard on your teeth.

I had to because I needed a root canal, and my son was born perfect. I don't think they would have done the x-ray if it would harm your pregnancy.
