I've just been elected President of the Accounting Society at my University. We are having our annual banquet tomorrow evening where the New president is introduced to all of the Society members, University Faculty, and accounting firm representatives in attendance.

My question is: What should I eat for lunch before the banquet, and before I give my speech?? I'm just curious if there's a brain food, or something that will quell the butterflies in my stomach... I do expect to be very nervous!

Thanks

Lemons or lemon in your water will help keep your voice crisp and your throat clear.

How about cabbage rolls and baked beans --- that for sure will take care of the butterflies and should definitely keep your mind focused on getting through your speech in a timely manner so that way you can make it to the bathroom on time.

I usually just have a drink of water right before. Rehearse a few times (2 or 3) before you give your speech and you will do great. I always practice a few times and then when I give the speech it comes out even better.

Just eat some energy food like energy bar, or something. Just don't eat a heavy meal or drink LOTS of water or you'll need to get to the bathroom.

I can tell you what NOT to drink, anything with caffine. At school I took a "Presentation Skills for Trainers" course and the instructor, an accomplished trainer and public speaker, taught us that while caffine gives you a feeling of "energy" it has been determined to make it harder for you to focus and concentrate.
