The MSG making you feel full thing is also a myth.

MSG is a flavour enhancer which gives us a 5th taste sensation after Sweet, Sour, Bitter & Salty which was named "Umami" by a Japanese scientist. It's taste has been described as Savoury & meaty.

People who are MSG intolerant have reported having a burning sensation on consumption and some other report headaches along with other ailments.

MSG is a sodium salt of glutamic acid, one of the most common amino acids (protein building blocks) found in nature. As glutamate, it is present in virtually all foods.

Glutamate is found naturally in foods such as tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, peas, cheese, meats, fish, even human milk (20 times more than cow's milk).

MSG is produced by a fermentation process similar to that used in making beer, wine, yoghurt or vinegar. It is produced from natural products such as sugar cane molasses or tapioca.

There is no difference between glutamate found in natural foods and that added as MSG.

MSG seems to get some unnecessary bad press as if it's some kind of toxic poison but infact in most of us it's completely harmless.

A minority of people have a bad reaction to it but then a minority of people also have a bad reaction to nuts and gluten.

I think products containing MSG should be clearly labelled so people who are intolerant can avoid consuming it and us who are tolerant can enjoy tasty grub :-)

Getting back to the point if you still feel hungry after eating Chinese food then eat more at the time !!!!

If chinese food generally had this effect on everybody then you wouldn't see chinese tourists rabidly taking photos because they'd be stuffing their faces due to their constant hunger.

I don't. By so soon afterwards, do you mean 4-5 hours afterwards? No meal fills you up indefinitely. Perhaps you're only eating a bit of the meal. That stereotype about Chinese meals always makes me cross - it's bigotry, pure and simple. Chinese people don't go around eating all the time, which, if what you're saying was true, they would be. Chinese food is not insubstantial, nor is it filled with chemicals, nor is it made with witchcraft. It's healthier than most other foods (if you don't go for the fried options) and just as substantial, if not more so.

From a bio-chemistry point of view, one thing in food that makes you feel "full" is fat. In many Chinese dishes the fat content is very low because the sauce is made from stock and a thickener and there is little or no oil used. Even though you may eat a normal portion since there is no fat to trigger the "full" feeling you may feel hungry again soon.

You obviously don't eat the same amount as I do! I've heard tons of people say this, but I've eaten a million and a half Chinese meals (not all at the same time) and never felt hungry after any of them. Maybe you're not choosing the right menu!

chinese language nutrients is oftentimes extreme in carbohydrates that are metabolized right away. that's a similar result as ingesting an excellent bag of potato chips. that's going to fulfill your starvation in hardship-free words quickly, then you actually will be hungry back. It has to do with the Glycemic index:

Chinese food often contains alot of MSG, this is a flavour enhancer. i think its because MSG works kind of like salt, it makes your body feel bloated and dehydrated. This means that you feel fuller than you are. Once you have restored fluids etc you feel normal again and want to eat. Maybe, its my theory anyway not sure how scientific it actually is but always sounds pretty reasonable to me...
