I know i dont particulary like PBF and everyone knows this but i think this is a valid question, i was just thinking about the mid 80s and all those great fighters and great fights that was 20 years ago, will people be watching Floyd in 20 years or will they be watching Barrera, Pacquiao, Castillo, Morales, Gatti, Corrales, Hatton, etc

Im asking because im interested in what style of fighting people would prefer to watch. Thanks

By the way he has fought up until now NO!, many people see him as being one of the best all time greats, putting him up with Tommy Hearns, Marvelous Hagler, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez,,,,lets not forget those guys are up there because they have fought wars not "cllinics" in the ring and not dodging any opponets...how does Mayweather expect anyone to give him credit when he dodges great fighters and picks fighters he knows he can beat to show his skills and improve his "perfect" record (he lost that first fight against Castillo).

To be one of the best you need to fight wars in the ring to be remembered. People still talk about Hearns vs. Hagler, Hearns vs. Leonard, Duran vs. Leonard, Ali vs. Frazier, Sanchez vs. Gomez, Chavez vs. Taylor, Morales vs. Barrera...tell me Mayweather vs. ?

The best fighters are remember by their battles in the ring not by putting up "clinics". But Mayweather still has time to wise up....

Frank ~
Man, I don't know. I do know that I wont be. ESPN has Classics on and some of the fights that they show I have no idea what classifies a classic. I watched Dana Rosenblatt fight Vinny Pazenza and these two fighters were everything but great and it wasn't even a good fight, so who knows maybe they will be showing Mayweather vs Judah or Mayweather vs Baldomir.
The fighters that you mentioned Pacquiao, Castillio, Morales, Gatti, Corrales and Hatton all fought fights that people weren't so sure they could win, in some cases there was a pretty good chance that they would be knocked out this is what separates these guys from Floyd, this is what a truly good and the Great fighters are made of, not fighting handpicked opponents who's claim to fame is "They can take a punch"
I don't want to get into why Floyd isn't great, but could you imagine Floyd beating a in his prime Tommy Herans? Exactly, that's exactly why we watch Tommy's fights 20 years later against Hagler, Duran and Leonard and we won't be watching Floyd.
Thanks Frank!!!!!

no longer very IMO. a minimum of for me. Cotto has misplaced his 2 best fights and he somewhat beat a Clottey who lacks a killer intuition. it is merely complicated for me to be sure Cotto as an elite fighter anymore. yet, If Mayweather vs Marquez can generate a million mil. PPV buys then i do no longer see why this combat won't experience that. This combat ought to have been made returned in 07. I do evaluate it so lots greater captivating than the Mosley vs %combat. Cotto looked first rate against Foreman and he will somewhat put off Mayorga conveniently. those 2 fights are actually not good adequate to guarantee Cotto a niche interior the right 5 P4P scores, yet they are good adequate to hype the combat with Mayweather. one element is for specific nevertheless, Cotto has looked greater useful than Mosley in his cutting-edge fights.

I think it all depends on what you like as a fight fan. Having boxed myself, i can appreciate a fighter like Floyd's skills. But i also like a good ol' fashion war as well like Hagler-Hearns or Gatti-Ward.. Fighters who fight like warriors and have that blood and guts type style will always be more exiciting to watch, especially to the casual boxing fan. That's what drew a lot of people to Mike Tyson who normally didn't follow the sport, they tuned in to see Tyson because of his in your face i'm comin for the knockout type style. But the true boxing fans who know the technical aspect of the sport love to watch fighters like Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker as well as the warriors. I surely would watch him 20 years from now.

i do not think Mayweather will be able to weather the storm that boxing puts on ones body in 20 years. Now Castillo, maybe.
