My dad would always make fun of my dream of going to Harvard.I really want a good future and be a doctor so I can help people. But my dad calls those dreams trash and every time he sees me studying he would snicker and say I'm just like my sluty mom.I really don't like it,but whenever I tell him that he would always laugh at me and pretend it was funny. It's not. What should I do?

Keep on studying, dude. I don't mean to offend you in any sort of way, but clearly your father doesn't know ***** when it comes to hard work, and it shows through his belittling of your mother. If you're just like your mom, then your mom must have been one determined chick (so in a way, that's more of a compliment).

Looking on the positive side, your dad's snickering and talking down to you could be his only way of encouraging you. If he's the big, bad, 'gotta be tough all of the time and not show love' type, he knows nothing about how to treat his son, thus he naturally emotes what comes to mind first.

Get involved with scholarships in your high school. You'd be surprised how many people and organizations LOVE to give out free money for college... I know I sure as hell was.

P.S. - Though I'm sorry to hear that your mom is no longer with you, know that (just like you) she was smart and got the hell away from your dad.

Email me if you'd like. I know a lot about this kind of thing.

first of all know that you are you. your dreams are nice not wierd so obviously dont expect praise from your pops. get a poster board and start putting words on it that move you in the direction of your dream. get pix of doctors in magazinnes or doctors you admire or whatever and paste them on your board. then place this board in view in your room and let that be your modivator. you will be suprised how you reach your goal without pops at a boy. good luck

Sounds to me like your dad is one of two things.... either jealous that you have a good life ahead of you at Harvard or putting you down cos he's secretly scared of letting you go....

Wonder if your dad has regrets that his dreams arent reality like yours are :-) hope it works out x

I don't see how going to harvard makes you synonomous with being a ****. Next time he says something like that ask him if it's the fact that your mom was a "****" or the fact that she moved on to bigger and better things that he's referring to you being "just like her" about..

Harvard is for rich people; if you have enough money and the scores, go for it. But I should warn you, there are scandals in Harvard, although it is Ivy League.

Just punch him, until you get your stress out, like a stress ball, then cuss, kick, laugh, scream, yell, sing, and do others. Believe me, it works.
