If a guy flips you off he's being crude and vulgar. It doesn't mean anything good. It's the equivalent of saying "F you" to someone.
To read between the lines means to look for the underlying or hidden meaning of something. I don't know what the W meant, but chances are, it was meant to be rude just like other hand jesture.
