Have you noticed that almost everywhere you go you see a glowing neon sign on the door that advertises cigarrettes?
Have you seen the posters of a happy couple with those things in their hands and their teeth are purley white?Have you seen a bunch of cool guys hanging out with their friends on these posters and doing the same thing as the others? And have you noticed how the warning labels are always pushed off to the side and mabye even need a magnifying glass to read it?The companys who make these awful things do it on purpose. They make it look fun or cool on the posters and in the magazines and almost everywhere! When people start, they think they can just have one and quit...no!Eventually there doing them so long that its too late. They cant help it.Their hormones become so high and their need for those things grows until they cant stop. The componies know this. This is why when the old buyers die or become ill or quit, they just advertise them to younger generations so they can sell more and more.People know that it harms them its just that they cant help it.Because of all the chemicals in it,
it becomes addictive. To stop, people need a lot of support!
They need comfort and understanding or everything turns out into an angry mess.To quit they try some medications or even some who are lucky just quit on their own. :D
Hope this helps!

Beginning in 1985, lung cancer became the #1 cause of cancer death in women, and today, more women than men smoke. Why? It begins as a social custom, and no one sets out to become a smoker, or to devleop a health risk. Unfortunately, the health risks of smoking are delayed, by which time an individual is habituated to nicotine - which is more addicting than alcohol.

I think because they know that the chance of really getting a lung cancer themselves is low. Most smokers don't have lung cancer. The most important thing to make them stop smoking is themself. They have to feel they want to stop it. There is a new medication Chantix, which is better in addition to Zyban and other nicotine supplements, available by prescription.

I'm a smoker, I started at thew age of 13 because all my friends were doing it. I'm now 45 and unfortunately I can only see one reason for me to quit, and that's for me to die. I know all the troubles smoking causes, but I just cant seem to quit, and I have tried many times. It's easier said than done. Hope this helps KG

Smoking is extremely addictive and, I hear, more difficult to stop than heroin. The don't stop because they can't. Even ex-smokers have cravings, years later. It's like alcoholism and eny other addiction. Smokers who truly want to quit need support and help, not ridicule and nagging.

Smoking is an addiction every bit as potent as is addiction to heroin. You cannot make someone quit, you can only help them if they WANT to quit.

Its an addiction, and also a temporary escape.

In order for them to stop, they will have to "really" want to stop, as well as seeing the advantage in stopping.
