I overheard someone I know on the phone offering to give someone drugs. Should I report them, I don't want my identity revealed to the police. Can I just give them the information or not???

Ring crimestoppers - you dont have to give your name . If I were you I would leave it. Crimestoppers nor police will do anything at all unless you actually photographed the person with drugs or can definitely say they are a drug dealer with large amounts of drugs at home or is growing the stuff. Lets face it, who wants thousands of pounds of police money wasted on raiding a person and then they dont find anything or a piddly bit of personal ????? xx

If you live in the UK you can use Crimestoppers as numerous people have said but with anonymous information that is not corroborate by any other source it is more difficult for the police to justify taking action as they cannot be sure that the information is not provided maliciously etc..
You can also call your local police station and ask to speak to the "Intelligence unit" (oxymoron here) or "source unit" and they will take the information from and your details if you wish to give them and explain what can and will Eb done with the information. I would suggest that would be better as you speak to a person this way they will tell you what they need to know to be able to identify who you are referring to and what will be done with your info but very importantly from your point of view what will be done to protect your identity.
It is not under the Data Protection Act but Regulation of Investigative Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) under the section headed CHIS. Covert Human Intelligence Source

CALL URE LOCAL POLICE, and if i am honest with u, what does it matter if you give your name, due to data protection act they cant reveal your name to anyone! And on the other hand if you dont want to reveal your name to the police, i can only ask why? makes me think that you have done something wrong as to hide from the police?!?! it wont work as if you have called police befor your telephone numebr will still be on record. So when they ask who you are, Just friggin tell em!

i think ya,Markyyy....this finished area of reporting,blocking,eye gouging and playing for factors,is previous me....that is like dealing with third graders...I purely extremely do not contain myself in all of this junk and that i could not care a lot less about what aspect I have attained...i'm confident there are diverse very righteous persons and geniuses that are on aspect one,and conversely, diverse heathens and idiots on aspect 7 to infinity....i in my opinion, were extremely fortunate contained in the previous reguarding Yahoo disciplinary action yet am somewhat miffed to computer screen the unfair and vicious therapy that many were unjustly subjected to... If i was you then i would just think of it like this it could be one of your children (if you have any) they are selling it to and the police can't give your name not even if it goes to court if it goes that far.

you report them now and what will you report? there was this man at the payphone; he was how tall? what was he driving? what drug? do you know where he lives? the officers would be chancing their tale considered how long ago you asked the question.

Well you can report this, but when they do the investigation, they kept need your info. But you always have the choice to remain anonymous.
