I don't believe it is ever ok. Simply because whether 7 weeks, 17 weeks, 27 weeks or full term, a baby has the same DNA, the same genetic code, the same attributes that make it human...
The only difference is that it is smaller.
If we had a new baby, a 3 year old, a 10 year old, we would never kill our child because we were raped, addicted, poor, young, etc.
It makes no difference. A mother is a mother whether the baby is in you or out of you. If you cannot take care of your child, find someone who can. Adoption is hard but gives life. Abortion is hard but gives only death....

It is a personal choice that every woman who considers it must make for themselves. Whether you based the answer on religion, ethics, or economics you still have to live with the decison you make.

I am opposed to late-term abortions unless there has been an accident that caused harm already. (My friend got in a car accident and her baby was crushed when she was 6 months along. She barely survived herself )

I feel that if someone is going to choose to have an abortion then they should do it earlier rather than later as it is a more simple procedure and has fewer health risks for the would-be mother.

But many women don't realize they are pregant till they are around 2 months, then you have to confirm it and schedule appointment with could set you out another month in some places. Or you have to save the money for the procedure.

If someone is not ready for a child they should think about that before they have sex and take preventative measures.

I had a promising Navy career set when I was 19. Scored 98% on military entrance test. Had college and officers training and a signing bonus ready to go. Paperwork almost complete. Went to my physical and found out that I was pregnant. The choice was Navy/career and a solid future or have a baby, and deal with an struggling uncertain future. I am happy with my choice and I love my son dearly.

I saw too many of my aqcuaintences in high school use abortion as their method of 'birth control'. One girl had 3 during senior year! This I don't agree with.

In Jr High my then 11 year old friend was raped by her older step-brother. The mother made her carry the baby and then give it up. 17 year later my friend is still searching for that baby and wishes her mother would have given her the option to have an abortion. The doctor at the time even reported the mother to CPS but they couldn't do anything.

Children are a blessing when you want them. But it would also be unfair for children to grow up knowing that they were not wanted. These are my thoughts on the matter, I hope they are helpful for you.

ONLY:
when a woman is raped or victimized by incest or when the mothers and babies lives are in danger because of the pregnancy.

before the 7th week of gestation when the child is only starting to resemble a human baby?.........the mother should have the child and give it up for adoption.

up to and including the moment before birth for purely elective reasons?.....................the baby should be saved and the mother should be shot.

when a child will likely be born with health issues, Downs, etc? If the mother can't handle her child then give the baby up for adoption.

when the mother is a 14 year old meth addicted prostitute?........Save the kid and throw the 14 year old in jail tell she's 50

when the mother decides she is not ready for a child?.......Adoption is always an option

when the mother decides it will keep her from living a cosmopolitan lifestyle in a Manahattan upscale apartment if she carries triplets to term rather than the ONE child she had anticipated?...............She should be sterilized ASAP and her children should be given up for adoption seeing as how the mother is advisedly to stuck on herself to care for another living being.

I think that you illuminate a good point, which is that abortion is a very, very complex issue. Perhaps instead of looking at is as a black and white issue, we should understand that there is a lot of gray.

However, since we cannot create legislature for each and every one of these scenarios (all of which are morally charges), I feel that as a society we need to understand that abortion has always been and always will be, and we need to keep it safe, legal, and regulated, so that the 14 year old, the cosmo lady, the rape victim, and the woman carrying a genetically defected child will not ALL end up dead in an alleyway from a botched, unregulated abortion.

In my personal opinion, I believe that abortion is her choice. If she is raped and she doesn't want the baby, she should be able to abort it. If she is too young to care for a baby, she should be able to abort it. If I was pregnant (but not from rape) I would probably not get an abortion. Look at it this way, though: If we did not have abortion, there would be many more people and many more unwanted children and more children in foster care. We would be more populated than we already are.

I say it is never ok. You didn't give life and it is not yours to take away. It is murder. Whether it be out of convenience, rape, incest or health reasons it still all adds up to taking a life and that is not our right. A woman has the right to keep her knees together and if she doesn't not want a child then that is what she should do. If a child became retarded at age 5 should we kill him? If you were raped why not kill the rapist and not the innocent child. There is just no reason for abortion.

In my opinion abortion is wrong. Only in certain mitigating cicumstances would I even consider it a solution. Such as incest, rape, or there being a 100% chance that the baby would be born with life threatening illnesses or birth defects. Even then I would the person giving and consentually receiving the abortion, to ask God for forgiveness.

Maybe if the mother's life is in grave danger with carrying the baby to term (for example if she had peripartum cardiomyopathy in a previous pregnancy)

Maybe in the case of rape or incest

Otherwise no.

I think when it comes to rape it's not murder. I still don't believe it's ok but rape is traumatic and something someone doesn't want to relive. And that baby might end up being resented or mistreated because of it. Other wise it's a persons decision to have sex. They should deal with the consequences of it. And when it comes to health problems, it could be a risk if someone doesn't abort. my sister's friend got told she could die if she didn't she said she'd risk it. Her baby is two now and absolutely beautiful and my sister's friends is happy and healthy.

I think that "ok" was the wrong choice of terms to use to get a cogent response: however, it has spurred quite a lively debate amongst the answerers thus far. It will be interesting to see how tolerance vs. intolerance will allow this to play out...
