I have just been admitted to a college where there are ppl I never met before. They were all plain hello hi’s until an old date friend got admitted here… and he kinda related them all the stuffs I used to do before. Indeed I was brilliant in my studies, in sports and in some dance competitions. Girls used to like me a lot... but for now, ive got better things to do, like secure my future.

My present life, which was peaceful and ideal for study till now is being disturbed as Im having to handle a sudden burst of popularity. The ppl who never even talked to me are constantly trying to befriend with me in a compelling way. Also, others are frustrated and contrast v negatively in a most insinuating fashion.

I don’t wanna get involved with these new found friends nor mess up with the have-nots… As i said, i got better things to do. Im quite confused and uneasy. How to tackle this situation? Anyone around has ever been in such a situation? Please share your experience. Thanks!

Just don't think of it in terms of popularity. You shouldn't get caught up in labels. (I'm not saying you are). Be respectful to those who deserve respect. Be firm with people who don't. Don't look to make enemies. Discern between true friends and ***-kissers. Look out for yourself. Focus on what's really important in life. Think about the future.

Be polite, but firm. This will screw you up. Specially when it's with an aggressive edge. Bob Dylan: " Just 'cuz you like my stuff doesn't mean I owe you anything. " Tend to your studies. You'll know what to do. Watch the wash outs and unsats.

Conduct yourself with humility. The fawners will dissipate and the friends will remain.
